PMA Future Leaders Workshops A Hit!

A total of 57 attended the one day workshops in Sydney and Melbourne.

In Sydney 26 attended from  Paxtons Photo, Starshots, Leading Edge, Teds, L&P, Australian Photo Supplies, MSP Photography and four Camera House stores.

In Melbourne on Monday last, 31 participated, including from Michaels (11 attending), Teds 7, plus Camera House stores from Albury,Griffith plus four other CHA stores. There were also attendees from WA and Nthn NSW!

The change to "all ages" was obviously successful, as in both sessions there was a healthy mix of senior staff  not seen in previous years. The workbooks prepared by Friedman to support the workshops, will undoubtedly become excellent reference documents for those stores that participated.

Some of the topics covered included: an introduction to store management, management by delegation, the retail triangle, the Ideal store, the role of a manager, sales statistics, setting sales goals, the "gold star' process, coaching principles, measuring items per sale, transactions per hour, add on sales.

It is a fact that few of our sales staff have been exposed to the science behind selling. In the past it was provided by the industries main distributors however those days are gone, and it will be up to us (PMA) to spread this program more widely now we have a proven formulae.

Our sponsors were instrumental in providing the funds to make this happen. The retail industry applauds you for your ongoing support.

The Digital Show

Its now a little after the event and some better evaluations can now be made.

From a wholesalers perspective the show was a success. The stand presentation from all the exhibitors was of a very high standard something the entire industry can be proud of. The trade only day was well attended from of course the Melbourne stores but also from interstate and regional stores. On the Fujifilm stand and from what I could see of others it was a hive of business and excitement . New products and everything in one location for you to choose from. Saturday and Sunday were well attended and it just goes to show that the consumer is hungry to find out about what is new and to touch and feel the products they would like to own. Well done to all that attended and made it such a great show.

PMA Future Leaders Program

Just yesterday saw Melbourne's day for Future Leaders. It was held at Arrow on Swanston and we had 31 people participate. The opening up of ages has certainly made a huge difference to numbers and interest shown in the programme. Juanita Miell from the Friedman Group conducted the seminar with great enthusiasm and delivered strong and positive points to help all and their businesses alike to be better and more professional in their endeavours.

A special mention to those that attended from Foto Supplies Camera House, a great effort to come all the way from Albury on the border of Vic. and NSW just for the day.

Congratulations to all that attended.

Facebook Group for Aussie and Kiwi PMA Members

You are invited to join the Photo Marketing Down Under Group.

PMA NZ facebook

This group has been created following a suggestion by Alan Logue that those Aussies and Kiwis that attended the inaugural Photo Marketing Exchange Dinner in Melbourne might like to keep in touch with their new acquaintances.

This will be a group for small Australian and New Zealand photo/camera businesses to exchange marketing ideas, discuss issues, post photos and share related content.
With Facebook pages anyone can like a page and we now have people unrelated to PMA liking our PMA New Zealand page.
We've also heard that some small photo business owners feel nervous about sharing ideas on Facebook because it is so public.

Facebook Groups work differently and we've set this one up as a secret group so only members will see the posts and who else is a member.

So log into Facebook, visit this page and click on Join Group. Please help your colleagues by sharing successful marketing ideas. If something didn't work - share that too so we don't all make the same mistake!

The links might not work but this is the link to the group :  http://www.facebook.com/groups/151513818307324/

Thanks to Jill and Graham Boswell, PMA New Zealand,  for this initiative.

PMA Academy - your leap start to educating your customers

There was a LOT of interest at the DIMA Conference with regards to stores getting involved in their own education of customers.

PMA members can access ready made programs designed by two of the USA's top store educators.

If you don't educate your customers, someone else will and they will win their loyalty because of it.

Offering photo classes in your retail location is one of the hottest trends in the industry right now, and is creating huge customer loyalty and equally huge revenue. Retailers offering photo classes tend to have more repeat customers as well as sell more to those customers. However, developing a good photo class can be a daunting task and quite frankly too time consuming for most business owners.

PMA Academy

The PMA Academy (formerly CliQ Academy) Basic Photo Classes are a series of 10 beginner-level photo classes you can start offering your customers right away.  Developed by top consumer photo educators Mark Comon of Paul's Photo and Mike Woodland of Dan's Camera City, this amazing collection of powerpoint presentations, class hand-outs, quizzes, assignments, and support materials are now being made available to PMA members.

Photography takes centre stage on the ABC

This Thursday sees photography hit prime time TV on the ABC with the new show Photo Finish.

Hosted by passionate photographer Andrew Günsberg (Australian Idol), Photo Finish is a unique series where, each week, three amateur photographers compete head-to-head in themed photographic challenges.

Equipped with the same camera, the time-based assignments are designed to test the photographers' creativity and skills. A marriage celebrant, a prison officer, an actor, and a stay-at-home mum are amongst the 24 amateur photographers who take on a range of assignments.

To help decide the weekly winner, Andrew is joined by Anne Loxley, a curator at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary, Art and an expert judge from each genre.

Photo Finish

When was the last time you remember photography being showcased in such a way?

Maybe this show will create a buzz around photography like Race Around the World did for video.

It's time to start promoting this in store and get your customers talking photography!
