Picpress Wins again

At the recent Australian National Print Awards held at the Crown Palladium Ballroom in Melbourne,

Picpress once again has won multiple awards including the Top Gold Medal for our Digital Photobooks.

This again has solidified Picpress' premier position  as a leader in the field of book printing, and it is a great honour to be recognised by The Australian National Print Awards again.

Congratulations must go to all at Nulab and Picpress for their continued excellence.

A few years ago when our industry was in its biggest phase of change Nulab realised it was change or suffer a slow demise so they decided to take on the printing industry and move outside their traditional printing methods.

With the constant stream of National and International Awards they are winning it looks like they chose well.

If nothing else this shows that any business, when faced with tough conditions or a business that is shifting from its traditional model can find new revenue streams and new audiences to not just survive but grow.

Well done Picpress!

PMA Magazine Online now featuring The Digital Show - by Glynn Lavender

Check out this months edition of the PMA magazine with its article on the upcoming Digital Show in Melbourne.

Another story of interest is the cover story of Paul's Photo in Los Angeles who are remodelling their store.

I run a lot of Workshops at Paul's Photo and, great store that it is (it has won the regions 'Best Camera Store Award' for years) it has always been a very 'male' feeling store and this has really limited the amount of female clients. Realising this they have undertaken a remodel that was more about hard work then spending big bucks.

It is great to see a store looking for ways to appeal to a broader customer base and not sitting back and hoping things improve.

PMA Magazine, April - May edition, now online

The latest issue of PMA Magazine - Connecting the Imaging Communities is live and online.

Top features include the renovation of Paul's Photo and a look at the new 6Sight Social Imaging Report.

Also among the highlights:

  • PMA Australia event gets digital makeover - Annual conference provides wide range of education opportunities.
  • Portraiture in focus - School portrait and sports/event photography conferences spotlights new opportunities for growth and change.

You need to hear this!

The PMA team have now completed The Digital Conference progam, to be held this year in Melbourne, May 24th to 26th.

Over the next few weeks we will continue to highlight many of the Conference sessions in this newsletter, allowing you a "sneak peak" at the broad range of topics brought to you by industry acclaimed speakers.

Today, our featured speaker is Robbie Robertson, e2

Session E3: Thursday 24th May, 1.15pm

"Designing, Developing and Managing a truly memorable experience for shoppers."

The bricks and motor of most physical retail environments offer one dramatic discount over another. For most retailers this is not sustainable. Memorable experiences are difficult to replace by competitors and when positive, are exceptional brand differentiators. Robbie will explore the design philosophy and execution that is instrumental in moving customers through a valuable retail experience.

This year PMA is holding a special dinner on Thursday 24th May, in Melbourne. It will be the first time a Marketing Ideas Exchange, hosted by the ever popular Bill McCurry, will be conducted over a relaxed and informal dinner, amongst your Industry friends and colleagues. Bill McCurry brings insights from his many visits to imaging companies worldwide, including his most recent visits in Australia conversing with businesses, both large and small.

For anyone looking for some fresh ideas for their business, and would like to enjoy a two course dinner & drinks with Mr Bill McCurry, together with other interesting and insightful Photo Industry people, this should be a must attend event!

We will even provide a bus from the MCEC to take you to dinner and return you safely.

Bring your best ideas to share and be ready to discuss money making potentials. You will pick up ideas from across Australia and from around the world; how retailers have found new revenue, new marketing ideas and new profits. How should your business adjust to the industry's changes? Come along and listen, question and share.
