NSW Industry Members get the IDEA

On Tuesday 3rd April, more than 30 Members of the NSW Photo Industry met at North Ryde for the 2012 First Quarterly Review.

Mark Alderson reported on the Camera House Half Yearly meeting in Shanghai, and Paul Dawson (Chair of PSPA Australia) spoke about School Photography in Australia and compared it to overseas models. Paul Curtis provided some answers to questions about Exhibitors and promotion of the Digital Show.

Guest speaker, Katherine Singson, designate CEO of IDEA, presented for discussion some concepts on future directions for the industry. Katherine provided some history of her working background and experience with Next Computers, Apple and Microsoft.

She noted, Australians place a great value on lifestyle and widely embrace technology and entertainment. Katherine said Australia was well placed for growth of The Digital Show and could very well become a destination Show.

It was acknowledged that there was a need for the Show to be a rich experience for all visitors, where education and entertainment are a key factor, with a strong use of social media touch points twitter, facebook and live streaming to educate and promote.

IDEA has sponsored top note speakers to the PMA Conference to discuss digital Convergence, Lifestyle and Storytelling as well as sessions on the Show floor for all.

Images from the Industry meeting are shown below.

It's going to be an exciting Show and Conference.

Don't miss it!

Cheers

PMA NSW IDEA meeting
PMA Victoria State report - April 2012

As we are all aware business has been a little slower than what we had anticipated over the last couple of months, so maybe it's time to step back and have a good look at what we are doing and what opportunities are out there to investigate, explore and develop into great business decisions.

I have no magical ideas or pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I feel it's now time to look at how we can do it better, smarter, and with more vibrancy and enthusiasm. Stop worrying about what your opposition is doing and concentrate on your business. Make it the BEST and do your BEST.

I read an interesting article the other day, all about storage of data. You may say so what? Think about this, the article covered how 8 Track technology has dissappeared, Cassette has gone, 8 inch floppy disk has gone, 5 ¼ floppy disk has gone & Zip has gone. CD & DVD can deteriorate, so one scratch and the data is gone. What the hell is going to read the next contraption that is invented in the next 200 years? Our Industry deals with the most precious thing ... MEMORIES; so let's print them and tell everybody to do it! Paper and the information on it will be around for a long time to come, so promote it, and be creative to entice people to print.

On a lighter note the crew at PMA Vic put on a Golf Day at Croydon Golf Club, Yerring Meadows on the 16th March as requested by its members. Although only supported by 17 enthusiastic players, all had a fantastic day of golf. The players enjoyed a couple of drinks and lunch afterwards. Plenty of conversation all round and all looking forward to another day in the sun next year.

This does not mean that the John Noyse Arctic Blast Golf day is not going to happen. It will be on again towards the middle of the year. Look out for the updates on PMA Australia Newsline.

DO NOT forget the PMA industry get together at The Pumphouse on Tuesday 17th April at 6.30pm.

ALL WELCOME, if you want to voice your opinion, make a suggestion, or give us a hand organizing something, please come along. You never know what you might learn!

SEE YOU THERE!

Cheers

Paul Atkins

About Paul Atkins

In 1993, fresh out of a Bachelor of Business, Paul Atkins took the easy path and began working for his family's company AtkinsTechnicolour, taking a 60 year business into it's third generation of family involvement.

This was just in time for the company to enter the digital squeeze that Paul championed. Atkins was quick to pick up the technology, and with leadership from Kodak brought Adelaide into the new age.

AtkinsTechnicolour's success is purely based on it's excellent relationships with staff and clients, through the introduction of colour printing to Adelaide by John Atkins in the 1960s to the latest in digital techniques, the company has always held it's customers' hands tightly.

"A rising tide floats all boats" is the company motto.

Paul is State Rep for PMA in South Australia, President at Association of Professional Colour Imagers (APCI) and state council member for South Australia at Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). Lectures on Marketing, Colour Management, Adobe Lightroom. And son to John Atkins (the easiest job of all).

Ramsay's Camera House closes

I am sure all PMA members will join us in wishing Jon and Kareen all the best in their future endeavours.

"It is with sadness that we announce the closing of Ramsays Camera House. This will take effect at the end of April 2012.

We realise that this decision will have a direct impact on the Sunraysia community. It definitely has not been an easy decision but both Jon and I feel that the time has come to shift our focus to our immediate family, move further afield and explore new avenues and adventures.

We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our exceptional Staff, Suppliers and our Loyal Customers; it has been an honour and a privilege to work with, for and alongside each and every one of you.  Without your support our business would not have been the success that it was.

We will miss the many faces within the Camera House family but we are reassured with the fact that we have made lifelong friendships which will continue beyond this store closure.

Both Jon and I are excited with our plans to move forward, but would like to thank you all once again for your loyalty, support and friendship".

Kind regards

Jon & Kareen Clark

If you haven't smiled today......

I think the industry needs more photographers like this guy. It sure would be good for hardware sales.
