Nothing in our Xmas stocking!

Optimists would have predicted the Government would have acted following the Productivity Commissions Report on Australian retail.

No such luck!

For almost two years PMA has been working on your behalf to try and bring equity into the low value GST free imports issue.

It seems jobs in retail and wholesale business viability and fairness is overidden by the cost of collecting the GST.

We will not give up on this one - PMA will continue to work with the Australian Retailers Association to bring about change in this patently unfair situation.

In the meantime, the lack of world wide price parity with some major brands continues to be the "elephant in the room".

Maybe next year!

From your PMA team in Kathy Warlum, John Bourne, Lucy Wang and myself, we hope you have a prosperous, happy Christmas.

See you in Vegas?

Best Wishes

Peter Rose

PMA Victoria heads to the Brewhouse

Convention was turned on its head in Victoria on Wednesday night with the PMA Xmas function being held at the Carlton BrewHouse.

Jeff Crowley and his committee decided to take this year's event up market, and the Xmas fare, venue and enjoyment of the night proves the decision was a good one. Most were still there at 10:30pm and looked like staying. The evening saw some multiple celebrations!

Tony Trask, after having spent 42 years in the industry with Kodak, Canon, Hagemeyer and recently with APS will be retiring before month's end. Tony has always been a gentleman in all his dealings and will be remembered by his friends and colleagues.

Elsewhere Christine Algie is departing C.R Kennedy after 26 years and her contribution to that organisation is well known.

Robbo performed his last official PMA task as Australian National Chairman. I am sure his interest in the industry will be ongoing.

I speak for all PMA Members in congratulating Tony, Christine and Robbo for their friendship and participation in the industry over many years.

Jeff Crowley recognised the significant contribution made by Nicki Rogers in making the evening a success. Without the enthusiasm and hard work put in by individuals such as Nicki and Jeff, these events would not be possible.

Thanks also to all who attended in raising funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Association. We appreciate the support of sponsors Photo Clinic and Independent Photo Supplies in providing gifts of wine and educational packages.

A really enjoyable evening!

More industry stalwarts head into retirment

Over the last few weeks we have seen many well known names and faces announce their retirement at the end of 2011.

This week is no different with Chirstine Algie from C.R Kennedy and Tony Trask from A.P.S also announcing that they are off to start the next phase of their lives.

Both Christine and Tony are such well respected members of our industry that it will be tough to fill their shoes.

Christine has been a stalwart at C.R Kennedy's for 26 years and Tony has held roles with Hagemeyer, Canon, Kodak and most recently Australian Photo Supplies over a staggering 42 years.

I know you will join with us and wish them both a wonderful and happy retirement.

Cosh says Farewell

Good Afternoon,

After over 40 years in the industry it has come time to fade away into the sunset! I will step down from my role as National Sales Manager at Haldex Pty Ltd this Friday 16th December. My position as National Sales Manager will be taken over by Mr John Spiteri and I wish him all the best in his new role.

From what started out as a hobby at school developed into a lifetime of involvement in the Photographic industry spanning over 26 years in retail in Gippsland and Coffs Harbour and the last 20 years in Sydney in wholesale, 10 years with R. Gunz and 10 years with Haldex.

I would like to thank all of my friends and colleagues throughout the industry who over the years have made it a truly enjoyable and rewarding experience. I have made many great friends all over the country as well as overseas and look forward to catching up in my future travels in retirement.

As I still have "Developer" running through my veins I know it will be difficult to walk away and Bruce has kindly agreed to let me stay involved with Haldex Pty Ltd in a Part-Time Marketing and Consulting capacity which I look forward to with a new enthusiasm.

We launch a new B2B Website in the next week or so which I will assist with as well as taking on some other projects that will keep me "in the loop". I will also maintain a relationship with our overseas suppliers and assist in sourcing new products.

I will be re-locating to the lovely little country township of Seaspray in East Gippsland before Christmas and will operate from there for the foreseeable future. My contact details will remain the same.

Thanks again to everyone for their friendship and support over the years and I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Profitable New Year.

Best Wishes,

Peter Cosham.
