Some Good News!!

Interest rates hold steady, and The USA avoids "melt down".

All was good until yesterday when Myer advised they will be delivering freight free on internet purchases from their Hong Kong warehouse.

This was followed by Harvey Norman advising that they will be bypassing local distributors and sourcing CE products direct for their off shore internet site.

Do you get the feeling there is more to come??

PMA Victoria staged another successful"arctic blast " golf day last week. Details are covered below, however it was great to see John Noyes sons taking part in the day.

Congratulations to the Victorian committee for a great day as well as raising money for MS.

John Noyse Classic Golf Day

The support not only for PMA but for John Noyes family exceeded expectations with more players attending than in previous years.

Mother Nature turned on a wonderful day.

There was copious amounts of alcohol consumed, balls flung around every where and there was even a meat tray.

Great day, good laughs with the industry's finest, although there was a

dishonourable mention to Darryn Fisk with his Tiger Woods reference towards the drink ladies, but they loved it J

Honorable mention to Jeff Crowley and Richard Robinson for the highly amusing entertainment while handing out the awards

Japan Circa 1984 -  an exhibition by Peter Rattray

Well known industry figure Peter Rattray (formerly head of Kodak's Pro Division) will be staging an exhibition of his images shot during the year 1984 whilst he lived in Japan.

The exhibition will be held in the Kodak Gallery Ginza Tokyo from September 2nd to the 8th.

One of the most interesting aspects of this exhibition is the use of social media sites to attempt to locate any of the people depicted in the images. If any of the people can be located they will be invited to attend the opening evening.

We wish Peter all the best with his exhibition.

40% of all consumers have lost photos

We all know the importance of printing images as a method of protecting images but it has always been hard to quantify this to customers. This new Infotrends research gives us some data to use in our marketing to help educate our customers.

According to InfoTrends' latest Western European end-user research, over 40 percent of consumers have lost some or all of their photos. Many respondents indicated that their most favored photo recovery solutions are back-ups stored on an external hard drive or on CD/DVDs. While these are not bad options, there is one part of the preservation equation that is often being overlooked: photo prints. Less than a quarter of consumers reported using printing as a storage solution.

Mona Belle, a consultant at InfoTrends, states, "Consumers do not realize the value of backing-up images until they lose their favorite photos. Vendors and retailers need to remind and encourage consumers to use a combination of back-up methods: storage on an external hard drive, safe online storage, and photo prints. This is the best way to ensure that photos will be available for years to come."

Although they are popular storage methods, CD/DVDs and hard drives can deteriorate or crash over time, whilst high quality prints stored in photo albums are more likely to outlast these storage methods. Photo albums are also readily available to view and are more momentous. It is essential for vendors and retailers to offer a range of products that appeal to all consumers to encourage them to print their favorite photos in many different ways, playing up the benefits prints offer in terms of storage and viewing. A cherished photo should be printed for storage, as a gift, and for displays around the house

Are your customers overwhelmed?
When you ask a consumer, "Are you overwhelmed with your photos?" They tell you, "Yes!. It creates a tremendous amount of guilt and anxiety for them.

From this was born the Association of Personal Photo Organizers, a training and educational support association for the growing number of imaging consultants that will tackle mounds of images in a "Do It For Me" or "Do It With Me" business model. Founder Cathi Nelson outlines how this latent need is exploding worldwide and how imaging firms can join in, either as an active participant or as a support lab for local photo organizers. It didn't exist three years ago and today is a growth industry with relieved consumers across the globe. Listen in (or read the transcript) and see how Cathi convinces image overloaded consumers to store (and yes, Print!!) their treasured images. This could be a defining moment in your career or your company's history if you investigate this newest phase of digital history. It's a potentially profitable and highly rewarding growth phase of our industry. This is one of many trend changes Bill McCurry and the DIMAcast team will bring you this month from the just concluded IPI Members Retreat.
