Contingency Sponsor Awards Details
We have some new contingency sponsors supporting ASCC racers this year.  Some of you have "missed the boat" on the great awards they are offering as well as the great awards offered by our long standing contingency sponsors. You may not be aware of what each of these contingency sponsors are offering so please take the time to read ALL the awards details and understand your role in collecting your awards. Click here! for a detailed discription of all the awards offered.

FYI:
Some sponsors mail out certificates, some require that you register prior to a race, some awards have expiration periods (60 days in some cases) some require that you contact them within 30 days of meeting their requirements, some require you complete a request form and email or fax to them after you have meet their requirements.

I continue to hear racers complain and say they don't participate in the contingency awards program because they never receive the products or services promised.  I can assure you that ALL our sponsors honor their contingency awards offered or we take them off our list!

IMPORTANT: Transponder issues and updates
NEWS: The new MX Transponders are now available to be purchased through Mylaps 678.816.4000.  Please make sure if you decide to purchase a MX transponder that you tell them you want to purchase the MX TRANSPONDER and not the CAR/BIKE FLEX TRANSPONDERS. The FLEX Transponders will not work with our current system.

FYI:
If you already have a transponder there is no need to change. The MX is just a lower "initial" entry cost option for those still renting transponders at the races. The MX version does require annual licensing fees so over time the cost is more than the regular Transponder.

ISSUES: We continue to have problems with Transponders with low batteries (this causes your transponder to not pick up every lap) or Transponders that aren't picking up at all.  At the upcoming race we will make an asserted effort to notify you that your transponder has issues (keep your FM radio turn on to our Race Day frequency at 88.9 FM) If your transponder does not pick up you may not be scored.

Charging Transponders
A transponder only holds a charge for 3-4 days.  Some of you have stated you charge your transponder the week before then take it off the charging cradle to pack away.  YOU MUST KEEP YOUR TRANSPONDER CHARGING UNTIL WEDNESDAY PRIOR TO RACE DAY!
How to read/interpret your LED light on your Transponder:

Transponder LED

Status

Steady GREEN (when in cradle)

Active (battery full)

Blinks RED once every second (when in cradle)

Active, charging (battery empty)

Blinks GREEN in a sequence to indicate the number of days of charge remaining; e.g. 4 blinks indicates 4 days of charge remaining (the blink sequence repeats every 5 sec)

Active, not charging and battery charge is getting low

Blinks RED quickly every 5 sec

Active, not charging and battery almost empty -less than 1 day of charge left

Steady RED

Active, not charging and battery empty -transponder will stop working at any moment

Blinks RED quickly 5 times per second

Inactive

LED is not lit (when in cradle)

In 'sleep mode'

LED is not lit

Battery is completely discharged

Mounting your Transponders:  See attached PDF for instructions on placement of transponders.  I have seen some of the Pro racers mount their transponders incorrectly.  Please read! How to install a Transponder.   Please note that the decoder/loop used in short course racing (LOORRS and regionals) is buried undergound and the transponder must point directly down towards the decoder with nothing but air between the transponder and the decoder cable. Common mounting errors: transponders mounted at a slight angle, inside driver cage, part of body/cage/metal plate in path of transponder and dirt/ground.

Benefits of owning a Transponder:
A MYLAPS personal transponder and account provides access to your official race and practice data for every lap.

Every MYLAPS transponder comes with a unique ID that you can link to your MYLAPS account. Your MYLAPS account provides free and unlimited access to all your race and practice results. Being able to analyze your data will help you improve your performance. Just login from wherever you have an internet connection.

The benefits of your personal transponder:

  • Guaranteed accurate and reliable results
  • Free and unlimited MYLAPS account
  • Online access to all your practice and race lap times
  • Permanent storage of your data
  • Share your results with your friends
  • Simplify registering for events
  • Use your transponder all over the world

We are looking for volunteers to help with Hand Scoring the Heats & Mains
We have made a lot of positive changes and improvements to our timing and scoring process.  As our series continues to grow we find ourselves in need of volunteers to help hand score the heats and main events to ensure accuracy of our results.  It is especially challenging when there are more than 10 vehicles in a race.  If a racer's transponder is not working properly we look to the hand scoring sheets as a back up to confirm results. We have yet to have a race where everyone's transponder is picking up. Therefore, hand scoring is especially important at this time.

If you are interested in volunteering as a hand scorer at the May 5th Race please email or call Lori at lori@arizonashortcourse.com or 928-707-4049.

Basic Rules and requirements:
  • You will not be allowed to hand score a race where one of your family member's is racing (unless there are 2 hand scorers for that race which again is necessary for the classes with more than 10 entries)
  • You must be available to hand score for at least three (3) races consecutive (heats and/or mains) in a race day
  • You can bring a helper to assist you in reading vehicle #s
TECH CORNER

Safety is a top priority. We check every vehicle at each race to ensure they meet the minimum safety requirements. i.e, head and neck restraints, seat belts, shut off switches, etc.

In addition, prior to each race event our Tech Inspectors select a "class rule" (requirement or restriction) for one or several classes that they will check to ensure all vehicles in that class meet the standards and requirements/restrictions of that particular class. Every racer is responsible for following all rules set forth in the ASCC/Lucas Oil Regional Class Rules for their particular class.  If you have any questions about the rules and/or restrictions of your particular class please go to the "Drivers' Page" on our web site and click on your class' name under "class rules".. Or feel free to contact Carl Perez at tech@arizonashortcourse.com prior to race day with any questions you may have.

This month's Safety Notification/ alert:

Carl Perez our Tech Inspector has reported there are several of the Mini and Full Stock trucks who are in violation of an important safety rule.

YOU MUST HAVE THIS VIOLATION  FIXED PRIOR TO THE MAY 5TH RACE!

All vehicles must have a master on/off switch wired to the battery in a manner that will cut off all electrical power and the engine.

Master switch must be labeled, have a red circle around it, be located on the left hand side of the dash panel and must be accessible from the outside of the race vehicle. Red circle must be at least 1 inch wide.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.  We look forward to seeing all of you out at the track. Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,
