A Note from the Executive Director of Special Education Dr. Cyndi Short
Parents and students, welcome back to school! Parents, I invite you to volunteer and represent your school at the Special Education Communication Council (SEPCC). The mission of SEPCC is to educate parents on the resources and services available for families with special needs in the area of special education.
The SEPCC members can disseminate information they receive at the monthly meetings to the other parents at their campus. If you are interested in representing your local school, please call the Special Education Team Leader at your campus or call the Office of Special Education Services at 281-284-0750 for an application. If you would like to be a guest, please join us at 9:30 to 10:00 AM on Friday, September 2, 2011 in the CCISD Boardroom located in the Education Support Center, League City.
After each SEPCC meeting, the Office of Special Education Services presents a topic related to special education from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. The topic for our first meeting is Special Education 101 which will introduce participants to the area of Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings, resources, continuum of services and much more. Please visit the special education website on the CCISD webpage. Parents can locate the special education parent workshop calendar by month, updates to the calendar, websites about various special education topics and special community events. If you need to discuss a personal concern or compliment about your child's programming, please call your child's school.
If you need additional information, the Office of Special Education Services can be reached at 281-284-0750. |
State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) STAAR Alternate Information
Starting this school year STAAR Alternate will be the only alternate assessment offered for student with significant, cognitive disabilities, grades 3 - 12. STAAR Alternate will be more rigorous: focus on fewer skills, address skills in a deeper manner and provide a more clearly articulated assessment program. The ARD Committee will select the STAAR Alternate assessment for students who meet the participation requirements for the student's enrolled grade level.
- For students in grades 9, 10, 11, 12 and beyond the ARD committee will determine which EOC courses listed on the minimum plan will be addressed each year.
- Students will be given credit for the TAKS-ALT assessments previously administered for grades 9 and 10 as follows:
- Previous grade 9 TAKS ALT test in reading will be credited with ELA
- Previous grade 9 TAKS ALT in Math will be credited with Algebra
- Previous grade 10 ELA will be credited with ELA I
- Previous grade 10 Math will be credited with Geometr
- Previous grade 10 Science will be credited with Biolog
- Previous grade 10 Social Studies will be credited with World Geography
