Influx of Fitness Centers Helps Shopping Centers

健身中心進駐與商場共創人潮

經濟不景氣，購物中心、商場或辦公大樓空屋率日高，但健身中心（Fitness Center）卻逆勢進駐，形成另一番「繁榮」景象。

剛進洛加大當新鮮人的黃同學近日跟媽媽說，他想申請健身中心會員，現在校園區租屋的同學都流行上健身中心紓解課業壓力，並鍛鍊身體兼交朋友。

在洛加大附近上班的陳先生，經常晚上加班前看到許多剛下班的白領族魚貫進入健身。晚間9、10點加完班，又看到許多大學生結伴進入健身。這家健身中心之前是空置滿久的辦公樓，現在愈晚愈熱鬧。

國際商業不動產協會董事許惠欽表示，由於健身中心開設面積都是上萬平方呎，近年許多購物中心、商場或辦公大樓的退租率日高，但這類商業不動產的地點交通方便、人潮聚集，都是開設健身中心的理想據點，不少健身中心的拓店腳步都延伸入這些退租的商場或辦公大樓，甚至新開發商場的招商，也特別希望爭取健身中心進駐。

這波健身中心拓店策略不僅瞄準主流客群，也吹進華裔社區。

在蒙特利公園市時代廣場（Atlantic Time Square）開店15個月的24 Hour Fitness員工表示，他們從商場開幕即進駐，不僅與其他商店相輔相成、共創人潮，而且該店24小時不打烊，可為商場延長各類客群停留及消費的時間，連帶也讓周邊店家延長營業時間，有很多店都提供24小時服務。

3 on 3 Asian Hoop Classic at Seasons Place

亞裔三對三鬥牛籃球賽在四季廣場舉辦，"Wet City"勇奪冠軍

9月25日於羅蘭崗火熱登場之"亞裔三對三鬥牛籃球賽"中，"Wet City" 以15：9的比分在最後決戰力壓 "Orient Express"，贏得全場總冠軍。首次舉辦的"亞裔三對三鬥牛籃球賽"由華美銀行及北美現代汽車榮譽贊助。

此次活動特別為亞裔青少年打造。主辦單位 Pivot Marketing Group 總監 Joni Ricard 表示："我們的目標正是為亞裔提供體育與娛樂相結合的活動平台。目前亞裔參與主流體育活動的比率偏低，我們期望可擦出火花，點燃亞裔參與的熱情。"

活動當天超過300多名籃球好手競逐冠軍大獎，緊張激烈的比賽及精彩場面令人目不暇接。最後淘汰了64支參賽隊伍之後，同屬於 Tony Jew 教練執教的 Blue Canvas 籃球隊員分成兩支隊伍殺入總決賽。

Blue Canvas籃球隊精英雲集，是籃球比賽的常勝隊伍。教練 Tony Jew 對躋身總決賽的都是自己的弟子感到相當自豪，他笑說："決賽開打前，我跟他們說，大家知己知彼，好好享受比賽！"

但冠軍只有一個。兩支實力相當的隊伍經一番廝殺後，"Wet City"最終奪冠。隊員包括 Sam Kim, Jason Lymn, Andrew Kim, Kelvin Kim 及 Tyler Gottstein。該隊興高采烈地捧走一千美元現金獎及湖人隊球票。並將於湖人隊開賽前向觀衆宣佈他們榮獲 "亞裔三對三鬥牛籃球賽"冠軍。

球場上比賽熱火朝天，場下則有走紅 YouTube 的 Krystle Cruz 與 Kevin Lien 現場聯袂炮製音樂娛樂節目。

蒞臨現場的籃球粉絲吶喊加油之餘，也品賞了場邊的美食，從 Akufuncture, Plush Karaoke, Imomoko 和 Ren Lee Beauty Station 等商家設置的攤位玩遊戲拿獎品。

此活動由華美銀行以及北美現代汽車榮譽贊助，WaCowLA 協辦。特別感謝
MYX TV, State Farm 以及 Akufuncture。

經一番廝殺後，"Wet City"最終奪冠。教練 Tony Jew, 隊員包括 Sam Kim, Jason Lymn, Andrew Kim, Kelvin Kim 及 Tyler Gottstein。興高采烈地捧走一千美元現金獎及湖人隊球票。

Hundreds Turn Out for Supervisors' Debate over Latino District

數百人到場旁聽區長關於西語裔選區的辯論

A contentious day is unfolding at Tuesday's Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting, where a fight over redrawing voting districts has boiled into arguments over whether leaders should largely preserve current boundaries or provide greater representation for a growing Latino population.

The largest crowd of spectators in decades showed up, forcing staff to equip three overflow rooms at the county's downtown Los Angeles Hall of Administration, set up lawn seating and even more chairs at the nearby Hall of Records. After 11 a.m., about 945 people had been counted and at least 800 had signed up to testify.

Supervisor Don Knabe, a white Republican from Cerritos, is fighting to preserve his district and retain his chances for reelection in 2012. Meanwhile, Supervisor Gloria Molina, the first elected Latino supervisor in modern history, is staking her legacy on forcing the creation of a second board district with a majority Latino voting population.

Meanwhile, James Tung, a resident of Rowland Heights, backed Knabe's plan, and said, "a supervisor is elected to represent everyone in his or her district .... It doesn't matter if the resident is black, brown, white, Chinese or Hispanic .... We do not expect to have a Chinese supervisor; our supervisor should be one who listens to the needs of the entire community."

STC Management played in 3 on 3 Asian Hoop Classic on September 25th. Althought our two teams did not advance into the second round, they had a lot of fun and felt the STC spirit and comradery. Here is what one of brave warriors had to say about his experiences.

青春不留白

3 on 3 Basketball is one of my favorite sports since I was in elementary school. I love playing with friends and watching NBA. When Kobe Bryant became a rookie in the NBA in 1997, he became my basketball role model.

14 years later, I still play basketball once a while, but I can't imagine I will play 3 on 3 hoops for my company - STC Management. My teammates, Justin and Francis, are amazing team players. Justin, our team captain, is good at long rang shooting while Francis is a center with his strong body creating lots of beautiful shoots during the game.

At the first 3 games, we struggled to win the game since we formed our team in just 2 days before the game starts. However, in the last game, we played better and finally won the first game in overtime. It was a phenomenal game and a fantastic ending. I was so happy that we didn't give up during the game even though we all felt exhausted. I think life is like a basketball game, you may have struggles, you may lose your faith, or you may lose all your strength, but the most important thing is that we should never give up hope. We need to have faith to overcome all the obstacles.

Thanks God that He gives me the strength I need, and the courage to overcome difficulties.
