Social Work Accreditation Granted
|
VFCC is excited to announce that the Social Work Program has received initial accreditation. The Commission on Accreditation (COA) responded favorably to the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE.) This is a significant milestone for VFCC's Social Work Program and the Department of Behavioral Sciences, and would not have been possible without the help of all of those involved in this five-year process. Leading this initiative from VFCC was Social Work Program Director and Assistant Professor Steven Stoeffler, Dr. David Scolforo, Chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences, and Dr. Philip McLeod, former Vice President of Academic Affairs. The accreditation is granted for the academic year of 2008-2009 through June 2016. This designation will significantly enhance the professional resumes of those students who have graduated, or will graduate, from this program. In addition, graduates who desire to go on for a two year Master's Degree in Social Work will be able to complete it in one year. We rejoice in this great achievement.

Fine Arts Festival
|

VFCC will once again showcase its mobile Media Command Center (mMCC) at the Assemblies of God Fine Arts Festival 2012 in Louisville, Ky. The mMCC will be used to record presentations of high school students from around the country. Worship teams, bands, and vocal and instrumental solos and ensembles will be able to record live tracks while their fans look on. In just a matter of minutes, they will walk away from the mMCC with a professional studio recording of what they performed.

The 48-foot semi-trailer is outfitted with state-of-the-art digital recording equipment and instructional space and houses two isolated rooms that independently operate for multiple simultaneous performances. If you are going to be at Fine Arts, stop by and take a tour of this facility.

Article by VFCC Senior Published in Pentecostal Evangel Magazine
|
VFCC senior, Andrew Mathe recently had an article published in the July 2012 Pentecostal Evangel. It is his sister-in-law, Jessica Buchanan '07 whose face graces the cover of the magazine. In his article, The Wait, he speaks of a very trying chapter of his family's life; one in which his family unexpectedly lost his mother-in-law and shortly thereafter Jessica was kidnapped by Somalian Pirates while serving the community needs of Africa. While Andrew's family did not immediatley know the fate of Jessica's life they did know that through the wait, they had faith. After three months in captivity Jessica was rescued by US special forces.

African Churches Going "Simple"
|
Cape Town, South Africa, is among the most beautiful places in the world. But, sadly, the rich, beautiful scenery is sharply contrasted by an appalling level of poverty, crime, abuse and AIDS. This bitter imbalance has touched the hearts of Noah '02 and Tricia Rivera '04 Kaye, who recently chose to leave their entire family to focus on Simple Church planting in African countries. The Gospel and a Skateboard
|
A hobby that started simply as a way to make some friends is now taking Derek Shatto '10 into places he never thought he would go. It became the sport that changed his social life and, in high school, gave him the chance to join a team of Christian skaters that would ultimately shape his future.

Influenced to Influence
|
When Joe Terreri '06 was 19 years old, he sensed God's call into the ministry. Not quite sure what to do with the new calling, he continued his studies at the University of Buffalo to become a school principal. Two years later, he made three decisions that would change the course of his life: to marry his girlfriend, Cheryl, to go to VFCC, and to study to become a pastor.
He is honored to continue to embrace God's call on the church to be an influence on the next generation of leaders being educated at VFCC, where he too, was influenced a short time ago.

Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer
| Batterson, Mark. The Circle Maker. Zondervan: Grand Rapids, 2011.
Honi, an ordinary man with an extraordinary God. Knowing the truths of Jeremiah 14:22, Honi lived out his life in devotion to God even in the dry seasons. Because of his belief, persistent prayers, and faithfully omnipotent God, a generation was saved. Honi prayed...he prayed with persistence and precision for what the people needed and God was there. He heard the cries and answered in abundance. So often we cannot even compare our faith or our prayers to Honi's. We approach the throne of God with timidity and doubt thinking that our problems are too big even for the God of the universe. Mark Batterson, lead pastor of the National Community Church in Washington, D.C., exhorts his readers to take their most audacious prayers and present them to God. Imagine what could be accomplished for the Kingdom of God if we just humble ourselves and boldly come before the Father with our requests. God has great things in store for each one of His beloved children, sometimes we just simply need to ask. Batterson will help you discover the truth that "God honors bold prayers and bold prayers honor God." The Circle Maker will have you "praying circles around your biggest dreams and greatest fears." This is one of the best books on prayer that I have ever read.
