Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer
| Tatum, Beverly Daniel."Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?"Basic Books: New York, 1997.
Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum is a daring woman. She set out to talk about a dangerous subject that everyone is wondering about, to ask aloud questions people have avoided speaking about, and to teach on issues of race. She writes to give the understanding of racial identity from the perspective of a mother, teacher and psychologist. Her goal was not only to present information, but also to start conversations about race, prejudice and advantage. She wanted people to use this book as a starting place to get past the "social awkwardness" of asking questions, making conversations less intimidating. Really, it's not so much about race as it is asking the question "Who am I?" The development of racial identity is a thought-provoking and conversation-starting topic in this book.
