VFCC hosted the 2011 Phoenixville Relay for Life on May 14-15. This year's theme was, "A World with More Birthdays," because cancer should never steal another year from anyone's life. After the opening ceremonies, cancer survivors, donning their purple shirts, lined up for the survivor lap to start the relay as supporters and caregivers clapped and cheered. Over 300 Phoenixville community members participated at the relay and 118 cancer survivors ran the survivor lap. Throughout the relay, no one is more important or celebrated than the survivors. "Just seeing the community come together for one cause is why I love Phoenixville; all the compassion people and the community show," stated Tracee Myers, event co-chair. Leadership Tools by Dr. Don Meyer
| Guthrie, Nancy. Holding on to Hope. Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.: Wheaton, 2002.
If you have ever had your heart broken, you know how hard it is to walk through a season of deep pain and loss. How difficult it can be to see any goodness or purpose in the midst of tragedy and disappointment. Yet that is exactly what Nancy Guthrie did. In her own experience of suffering, she learned to value the journey and now challenges readers to do as she did by surpassing the "Why?" stage and mining the "hidden gifts" sorrow has to offer. Using the biblical story of Job as a framework, Guthrie leads hurting readers to the comforting arms of a loving God and accompanies them on the path to healing.
