Lady Patriots Win First Regional Championship!
|

Valley Forge Christian College (VFCC) women's basketball team secured their first NCCAA Division II East Region championship banner! The Lady Patriots defeated a determined Lancaster Bible College team, 65-54, with a well-rounded team effort. After the first 20 minutes of action, the Lady Patriots held a 32-26 lead. However, the Lady Chargers wouldn't fold easily and with a little under eight minutes remaining in the game, the Lady Patriots pulled away by 10 points for the first time. Lancaster Bible College continued to battle back, but the damage was done. The Lady Patriots maintained their lead and clinched their first NCCAA Division II East Region championship title! After the game, the Lady Patriots celebrated the individual accolades of All-East Region award winners Amanda Reich, Shawneal McKeither, Amanda Compton, Charla Benton and Morgan Godwin. VFCC is extremely proud of the Lady Patriots and coaching staff, as they proved to be resilient through the long season to emerge as champions! Quite possibly for the first time in its history, the VFCC women's basketball team notched 20 victories with an overall record of 20 wins, 11 losses. Now, the Lady Patriots must prepare for the NCCAA Division II National Tournament in Circleville, Ohio. The Lady Patriots earned the #4 seed heading into the tournament and will play #5 Clearwater Christian College on Thursday, March 10, at Ohio Christian University.

On Saturday, February 26, 2011, approximately 60 VFCC alumni and friends gathered for the annual reunion in Lakeland, Florida. From Allen Mitchell '42, to Myra Renta '06, alumni shared profound reflections on their college years and what God did in their lives during that life changing season. They spoke of professors like James Morris, Milton Wells, Robert Krempels, Walter Beuttler, Hobart Grazier and others who left indelible marks on each of them.
Hosted by President Don Meyer and his wife, Evie, along with Dr. Dan Mortensen, Vice President of Finance and Development, and his wife, Shelli, this annual gathering included testimonies and updates on the exciting things taking place today at VFCC. A video was also shown summarizing for everyone the highlights of the past year. Special thanks go to Helen Hadler '50, for on-site planning, Rev. Joseph Vitello '53, and Shelli Mortensen, who ministered in music. Everyone is already looking forward to the next Florida Reunion, scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2012.

Alumni Highlight: Jordan Taylor 'o8
|
Jordan Taylor will never forget the time at VFCC when God confirmed his calling to children's ministry. It seemed that everything around him was suddenly seen through the eyes of a children's pastor, and everything he read became a discipleship opportunity for kids.
Jordan and his wife, Katie, began volunteering their time at Grace Crossings Church in Ohio, serving in children's ministry before they were able to join the pastoral staff. Slowly and patiently, they worked for months to develop a completely new children's program called Ignite Kids Ministries, which they launched in January of 2009.

Jessica Fletcher, A VFCC Medical Marvel
|
VFCC senior, Jessica Fletcher, was born with an extremely rare heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Within hours of being born she underwent a highly experimental procedure, from which no baby had yet survived. With God's blessing and many prayers from friends and family, Jessica miraculously lived through her first of four open-heart surgeries.
Jessica, now 28 years old, is the first person in the United States to survive this surgery, and is currently the oldest living adult with this condition. Jessica will graduate in December 2011 with a degree in Children's Ministry, and already has an interview this month for a children's pastoral position back home in Ohio.

Leadership Tools
| by Dr. Don Meyer
Trueblood, Elton. The Incendiary Fellowship. Harper & Row, Pub: United States, 1978.
Elton Trueblood was an esteemed professor at Earlham College for many years. His reputation was stellar, prodding on many to further commitment in Christ. He wrote many books over the years on various topics, and The Incendiary Fellowship is one devoted to becoming more devoted to Christ. Yet, Trueblood starts his book exclaiming, "Committed Christians are a minority at the present time!" While this work was birthed in 1967, this statement is still so true for this present time. He challenges his readers to pursue Christ, reminding us that this is not a business of religion or buildings, but rather relationship with God and His people.
