Senior Class Speakers Announced
Each year, six exceptional seniors are selected for the honor of senior speaker based on nominations by students with recommendations from campus departments and faculty. Senior speakers are given the opportunity to create and communicate a sermon for one of the daily chapel services.  Family and friends are invited to attend. The Academic Affairs Office, along with the faculty, is pleased to announce the following senior speakers chosen to represent their class for the 2010-2011 academic year:

Amber Davis, an elementary education major from Woodbridge, Virginia, will be the first speaker on December 6. Justin Gruber, graduating with a music education degree, and currently living with his wife, Kelly, in Phoenixville, will share in the December 7, chapel service.

The senior speaker schedule will resume in the spring 2011 semester with James Connolly, a pastoral ministry major from Fallston, Maryland, speaking on February 22.  Amy Platt, a pastoral counseling major from Blairsville, Pennsylvania, will share on February 24.  On February 28, Will Gwynn, a pastoral counseling major from State College, Pennsylvania, will speak.  Brandy Steel, a youth ministry major from Toledo, Ohio, will conclude the series on March 3.

Please join the VFCC community in congratulating these outstanding students.  If you are unable to attend a chapel service when a senior speaker is scheduled, please join us online at vfcc.edu/webcast.

Making the Difference Scholarships Awarded
Six VFCC students have been awarded the "Making the Difference Scholarship" sponsored by the Assemblies of God Trust and the Alliance for AG Higher Education. The $1,000 scholarship can often make the difference in a student's ability to attend an AG school. Dr. George O. Wood, chairman of AG Trust and General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, states, "We are investing in these young people through scholarships because we believe they will effectively reach multiplied thousands of people for Christ, if Jesus delays His coming, and build the kingdom of God in their generation."

The VFCC students who were awarded the $1,000 scholarship are: freshmen, Alissa Hulett, James Lanza, and Amanda Lester; sophomores, Bethany Kresege and Korinne Baker, and senior, Shannon Hartnett.

Leadership Tools
by Dr. Don MeyerDrMeyer

Rainer, Thom S., Eric Geiger. Simple Church. B&H Publishing Group: Nashville, 2006.

Church has become one of the busiest places to be. Pastors are stressed, trying to do too much and to top it all off, they're feeling ineffective. Maybe we don't need another program. Thom S. Rainer and Eric Geiger started considering the problem of hectic, busy churches, seeing how ineffective all of that work was. What if it could be simpler? What if we could return to God's process for making disciples? "Simple Church" offers to help leaders eliminate unnecessary stress and get their churches back to reaching and discipling people. Based on four principles of simplicity, Clarity, Movement, Alignment and Focus, Rainer and Geiger have presented one of the most practical and helpful tools for pastors and leaders to gain effectiveness. They provide not only the principles, but the practical help for how to make it happen. It's not about the programs, it's about reaching people.
