Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Spectacular

(Thursday night, tomorrow night 6-10 pm)

Tomorrow night is the night. We've pulled together quite a selection of some brand new, and not so well know Sierrra beers to celebrate the 30th anniversary occasion.  We'll be pouring half pints for sampling, but also have on hand the glorious ceremonial 30th Anniversary goblets for filling with your favorite Sierra beers if you so choose.  The first 30 people through the door at the event will receive a complimentary glass to take home.

For the remainder of what we'll be pouring this weekend, you can check our site.

Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary

Fritz & Ken's Ale

Starting off the lineup is a collaborative beer from two American craft beer heavyweights, Anchor Brewing's Fritz Maytag, and Sierra's head brewer and owner, Ken Grossman.  The inspiration behind this strong stout was those daring dark ales brewed by Anchor and Sierra Nevada early on when all that was available was pale, thin, fizzy,  lifeless corn and rice lagers brewed by the big 3, Bud, Miller and Coors.

Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary

Charlie, Fred and Ken's Bock

Famed beer writer Fred Eckhardt, and Brewer's Association president, Charlie Papazian both teamed up with Ken Grossman for a strong Helles Bock, or Maibock.  Both Ken Grossman's house lager yeast strain and Charlie Papazian's signature lager yeast "Cry Havoc" were used in fermenting this strong, clean, malty lager.

Jack & Ken's Ale

Another collaborative ale from poineer brewer Jack McAuliffe of the famed and now defunct New Albion Brewery and Sierra's own Ken Grossman.  This Black Barleywine is a nod to the strong ales served by the legendary New Albion Brewery in it's heyday.

Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary

Our Brewers Reserve (Grand Cru)

This is a very special beer, and the final release in the Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary series.  A Grand Cru blend of Sierra Nevada's 3 best selling beers (Pale Ale, Celebration, and Bigfoot Barleywine).  22% of the beer is bourbon barrel aged, and then the entire batch is dry hopped.

Sierra Nevada Saison Vice,

and Sierra Nevada Saison Versa

As part of Sierra Nevada's beer camp this year, rather than brew one beer, they've decided to release two fraternal twin Belgian ales. Utilizing a simple pilsner-like malt bill, the campers then pitched half of the batch with the D'Achouffe Belgian yeast strain, and the other half with the unpredictable Fantome strain harvested from the dregs of a bottle.

Sierra Nevada Writer's Block

An American blonde ale to inspire creativity. A beer with a toasty, biscuity malt backbone, a candied hop flavor, pine, lemon zest, and a crisp hoppy finish.
.

Sierra Nevada Estate

(Homegrown Ale)

As a nod to the American winemakers, and a nod to sustainability, Sierra has released their estate ale for the second year.  Brewed using malt, and hops harvested exclusively from Sierra Nevada property, this hoppy ale has a pleasant, easy, round malt profile which is not often found in Sierra Nevada beers.

Sierra Nevada Hoptimum

A lot of people have been waiting for this one.  A 100+ IBU, 10% double IPA brewed exclusively with whole flower hops.  This  beer camp beer is aggressively hopped, dry hopped, then torpedoed with Sierra Nevada's own experimental hop varieties.  We've been alotted a very, very small quantity of this beer (5 gallons), so you'll have to try this one in store.  We won't be filling growlers, but if you absolutely need to take it home, we may have a few bottles lying around the store.
