Uncommon Brewers Siamese Twin Ale
Here's an unusual beer from a young brewery out of Santa Cruz, California. A strong Belgian style dubbel spiced with kaffir lime leaves, coriander and lemongrass. A Belgian ale with an Asian spin. |
Sierra Nevada Chico IPA
I have a personal experience with this rare (so rare I couldn't find a label image) beer after sampling it at the Sierra Nevada Brewery this summer. The Sierra taproom menu describes this ale as "Our answer to the calls for a big "West Coast" style double IPA. This beer is a big hop-hearty bruiser packed with flavor. Chico IPA is brewed using massive amounts of Simcoe & new experimental varieties of hops." Trust me, this beer makes Sierra Torpedo taste like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. If you're a hop fiend, try this beer while you can.

Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary: Jack and Ken's Ale
Speaking of.... Sierra Nevada has released the third of their four, 30th anniversary beers. This collaboration between Ken Grossman of Sierra Nevada and Jack McAuliffe of New Albion Brewery comes wrapped in an intense 10.2% black barleywine package. Stong, malty, with bold grapefruit qualities, and a rich, lingering, coffee, toffee, chocolate backbone.

Hitachino Nest: White Ale
Why yes, we have it on draft. We also have bottles if that's your preference. This is perpetually one of our most popular bottles in the case, and now we have it for your growler. A Japanese take on the Belgian Witbier, this wheat ale is brewed with coriander, nutmeg, orange peel, and fresh orange juice, lending a unique but mild fruit/spice quality.
|
Smuttynose Farmhouse Ale
Though more of an imperial saison than most commercial examples, it shares the earthy, citrusy, peppery, "horse blanket" qualities of the best saisons. Dry, and summery with an alcohol kick.
|

The Bruery Tradewinds Tripel
If you missed out on this beer it's first go-round this season, than you have another chance. Belgium travels to Southeast Asia in this Tripel style ale brewed with rice and Thai basil. Golden, slightly sweet, and smooth with an interesting herbal undertone.
