Welcome to our new and improved newsletter!
Thanks to all those who came out for our first formal/informal Barleywine tasting last weekend. It was a fun time, so if you missed it, stay tuned for similar events down the road. As a bonus feature of the Barleywine tasting, we tapped our first gravity poured un-filtered, un-pasteurized cask beer. The cask was so popular that we've decided to make it a weekly tradition we are tentatively calling Firkin Friday. Stop by Friday's (beginning March 5th) at 5 o'clock for a tapping of a new and rare cask conditioned ale. We'll be filling growlers, glasses, or whatever measurable vessel you can bring in, get it while it lasts! Here are a few of the new and interesting beers we'll be pouring this weekend. Check out our website for the rest of our growler list.

Troegs Nugget Nectar is Finally here! Those of you who've had it in years past know how delicious this fruity, citrusy Imperial Amber ale can be. It's only available in February, and as with other hoppy beers, the fresher the better, so get it while you can. Here's what Beer Advocate members have been saying about this year's Nugget Nectar.

What's better than fresh oysters and a glass of stout? How about fresh oysters in your stout?
As part of the Harpoon 100 barrel series, they've decided on an oyster stout. This traditional style emerged during the time of "nourishing" stouts like milk stouts ("think Guinness For Strength") These beers are rich, smooth and roasty, with a light minerally, briny quality contributed by the oysters and their shells.

As a tribute to the Japanese spring tradition of Hanami or cherry blossom viewing, Smuttynose has created Hanami Ale. A dry crisp ale brewed with large amounts of tart cherry juice. Tasty, fruity and tart.

We're definately fans of Downingtown, PA's Victory Brewing, and they've released yet another delicious beer. Somehow it took them 14 years to release a Brown Ale, but we'll welcome it regardless. Bottom's Up Brown Ale is a smooth, flavorful and at 5% it's easy on the liver. The one to have when you're having more than one.

Bottles of Oro De Calabaza. This week the New York Times reviewed Belgian Ales, and their number one pick is the beer pictured to the left. We just received a new shipment of Oro De Calabaza 750 ml bottles. Jolly pumpkin is known for their old world artisanal ales, open fermentation and barrel aging. This beer has won numerous awards at the Great American Beer Festival, and if you're unfamiliar with sour beers, this is a great complex, earthy, tart example. |
