HURRICANE IRENE - DISASTER RECOVERY FUND

If you would like to help Vermonters impacted by the devastation of Irene, please make a donation to the statewide Vermont Disaster Relief Fund and drop it off at our local United Way office.

The Vermont Disaster Relief Fund was created by the United Ways of Vermont in cooperation with the executive board of the Vermont Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (Vermont VOAD) and Vermont Emergency Management (VEM) to be used specifically for long term recovery.  The United Ways of Vermont is the fiscal agent for the fund.  Expenditures from the fund will be used 100% for the unmet long term needs of survivors from the Irene disaster, and decisions will be made by Long Term Recovery Committees recognized by VOAD and Vermont Emergency Management.

Our local United Way is in the TD Bank Building in the Morrisville Plaza.  You can drop your check at the TD Bank drive-thru or go into the United Way office.

For more information on the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund, or to donate online, go to www.vermont211.org.

UNITED WAY RECEIVES GRANT FROM LEPC #11

The United Way of Lamoille County (UWLC) has received a $1,500 grant for their Emergency Planning for Special Populations project.  The grant will pay for newspaper advertising used to notify people in the community who would need special assistance in an emergency.  " The Local Emergency Planning Committee 11 (LEPC 11) is happy to support this project through an annual grant from the State Emergency Response Committee (SERC)", says Steve Munroe, Regional Planner for the Lamoille County Planning Commission, which provides administrative support to the LEPC.

UWLC is working with the Lamoille County Sheriff's Department and E911 on this pilot project.  The information will be entered into the E911 system and will be updated annually.  All records will be kept confidential and will only be shared with groups involved in helping to keep people safe in an emergency.  For more information about the project, contact Dawn at 888-3252.  For more information on LEPC 11, contact Steve at 888-4548.

Some of Our Many Business Supporters

Is Your Child Being Bullied?

This week our children returned to school and, regrettably, some will be the targets of harassment. Vermont Partnership has a brochure called, "What Should Happen When Your Child Reports Harassment", which outlines steps you should take to ensure your child's rights are preserved when dealing with a harassment complaint in Vermont schools. Click here

We Couldn't Have Said it Better
To pay or not to pay?  That's the question a broad array of Vermont companies face when it comes to encouraging their employees to volunteer in the community.  Click here to read the complete article from the Burlington Free Press.

GIVE.

If you could help just one person in Lamoille County, whom would it be? That's the question we'll be asking the community during the coming campaign.

The answer isn't easy, is it?  The need is great and there's only so much money to go around.  When you support our local United Way, you won't need to make this decision because you'll be a part of helping thousands of our neighbors!

We follow community needs and use your gifts to fund 15 of the most critical programs in our community.  Please take a minute to read our Annual Report which explains in more detail how United Way donations are used.

When you receive our letter in September, we ask that you open it and learn more about us.  We're very proud of our work and think you will be impressed at how much we're able to accomplish for a small organization.

Lamoille County Firewood Project:

On September 12, volunteers will meet to cut, split and deliver wood to income eligible families in our county.  Not available on that day?  We are looking for volunteers throughout the summer and fall.  If you or your business is interested in spending a day on the site, contact Dan Noyes at 888-2190.
