Letter from the President
Dear friends,
Why do we ask for the last four digits of your Social Security number?
We use an identity confirmation system to protect the privacy and security of your cemetery account. By asking just a few questions, we can be assured that the right person is requesting information or authorizing the use of your interment site. We will ask for the correct spelling of the person's full name. We only ask for the last four digits of the social security number because we know that the whole number can be misused. We may also ask for a history of the personal address to compare to our records. We can then compare this information to the data we have for the owner of record.
Keeping your account secure is one of our most important responsibilities.
Christ's Peace and Love,
Gary L. Brown
President, CEO

Honoring Sr. Teresa McIntier, CSJ
70 years of service

This year, Sr. Teresa McIntier, CSJ, Grief Counselor at the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries, celebrates 70 years of service to God and to God's people. Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted celebrated the Mass which began our Annual Advisory Council and Staff Day of Recollection on March 18, 2010 in her honor and offered her a blessing. A donation was made in Sister's name to St. Vincent de Paul and was accepted by Steve Zabilski, Executive Director. In addition, the management staff of the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries will serve at St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room on April 30th in honor of Sister's years of service.
Sr. first joined the Sisters of St. Joseph at a very early age in California. During these years, Sister has ministered as a nurse, teacher and counselor. Currently, she is nationally recognized in the field of bereavement counseling. Sister was a founding member of the American Academy of Bereavement and was a faculty member from 1990- 2005. Queen of Heaven Mortuary
Your Catholic Funeral Home
Jesus has commanded that we "love our neighbor". As Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted pointed out in a letter dated October 2005, it is our responsibility as Catholics, to express "love for neighbor" through the Corporal Works of Mercy.
In 2006, The Diocese of Phoenix charged Catholic Cemeteries with the responsibility to lead the Diocesean effort forward in realizing the fullness of the Corporal Works of Mercy - to bury the dead.
With the opening of Queen of Heaven Mortuary in July 2007, the Diocese of Phoenix became one of only four Diocese in the country to own and operate funeral homes. Our licensed professionals have guided over 800 families through the process of arranging proper liturgical services for their loved ones. In our efforts to fulfill our sacred mission, we evangelize our belief that death is "a gateway to fullness of life in our Risen Christ" (Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted).
We invite you to come visit and take a tour of this state of the art funeral home that has been blessed and consecrated by Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted.

Annual Board of Directors
and Staff Day of Recollection
The Annual Advisory Council and Staff Day of Recollection was held at Mt. Claret Retreat Center on March 18, 2010. The theme of the day was "Surprised by Grace". The day began with Mass celebrated by Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted at which Sr. Teresa McIntier was honored for 70 years of service in her religious community (see next article).
The morning speaker, Reverend Ben Drapeau, eud, emphasized the importance of being open to surprise and the need for a healthy image of the God who takes initiative and invites us to response. After lunch and time for reflection, Sr. Ginger Downey, OLVM, engaged the group with reflections on what surprise looks and feels like to help us recognize God's invitations.
The staff extends it thanks to the leadership of the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries for providing this time and space to reflect on God in our ministry and in our lives. |
