Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries Newsletter
As Long as Faith Endures
|
|
Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Friends Welcome to the new Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries (DOPCCM) newsletter. Several years ago, DOPCCM published a semi-annual newsletter As Long as Faith Endures that highlighted the activities of the cemeteries in the Diocese. In 2006, we stopped publishing the newsletter due to increases in the cost of printing, sorting and postage. At the request of many families, we are reinstating the newsletter in electronic form. This periodic newsletter will highlight issues, events and important dates impacting the Catholic Cemeteries and Queen of Heaven Mortuary. In addition, in the coming months we will provide special articles about our services and the teachings of the Catholic Church as it relates to DOPCCM. Please watch our newsletter for reminders of our cemetery clean up dates and special holiday memorial services. The Diocese of Phoenix has entrusted us with the sacred mission to care for and bury the dead. We thank you for the honor it has been to serve you in this capacity. Sincerely, Gary L. Brown President | |

News about the Cemeteries
Annual Memorial Services "Celebrating Life in a New Light" were held at each of the valley cemeteries in December. Attendance for these moving memorial services ranged from 15 - 150 people.
At the refreshment reception after the service, many of the families commented on the positive emotional effect being able to memorialize their departed loved ones brought.
In honor of the Christmas holidays, staff at the cemeteries and mortuary collected money and items for donation to St. Vincent de Paul in lieu of exchanging gifts.
Queen of Heaven Cemetery & Mortuary held its annual Reflective Evening of Prayer on December 10th in front of the Our Lady of Guadalupe statue.
Holy Redeemer recently completed a lighting project in which 6 floodlights were mounted on the top of two of our mausoleums. The project is designed to provide proper "low" lighting for our Memorial Day Mass and Annual Memorial Services.
On February 26 & 27th, DoPCC&M will host and sponsor the bi-annual Diaconate Training on the Rite of Christian Funerals.
Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries takes a day each year for the staff to renew and reflect on their ministry. This day at Mt. Claret Retreat Center begins with Mass celebrated by Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted. The day's speakers, Reverend Ben Drapeau, Associate Pastor at St. Jerome and Sister Ginger Downey, OLVM, partner in Faith on Fire will speak on the theme "Surprised by Grace". Please keep our staff in your prayers as they spend the day strengthening relationships with God, self and one another. |
