Steps for

Career Decision Making

Losing a job can be also an opportunity to explore new career options. It is a good time to look at what you enjoyed in your previous jobs as well as things you did not like doing and would like to change.

Here are the steps for career decision making:

Dream -   This is your opportunity. Look back at your wishes and dreams as far as you can remember.

Explore - Learn about who you are and what energizes you. Identify your:  Skills, Values (motivators), Interests, and Personality Temperaments.

Research - Now that you have identified who you are as it relates to career, identify:

- The skills you acquired in your previous   jobs and can use on your next job

- Education needed for your next job

- Financial possibilities (grants, loans)

- Is it realistic - will you be able to get a job in this area?

Implement - Set goals: long term and short term.  Go for it with the spirit of an Olympian.  No one gets where they want to be without strength of will.

Once you have decided on your new direction -

-Freshen up your skills

-Look at Part-Time or Temporary Work

-Volunteer

-Network, Network, Network
