Re-energize

Your Summer Job Search

Ask Yourself These Five Questions

Have I been networking?

Networking is not just about going to an event or a seminar with the purpose of meeting someone who is hiring. Networking can occur when you run to the grocery store or to the dry cleaner, when you get your haircut or when you attend a summer BBQ or party. Networking is about getting out of your house and making connections with other people. A good networker connects with people that they have met in any situation both in formal and informal settings.

Do I have a job support team?

Who can you call to help you when your confidence has disappeared? Who can help you role-play for an interview? Who can you call when you need new ideas on how or where to look for work? Who helps pick you up when your motivation is lacking?

Have I learned anything new lately?

Challenge yourself to learn a new skill that would make you more marketable or improve your confidence in the job search.

Have I taken some time to volunteer?

Many people who are not employed lose the feeling of having a purpose.  Helping others gives you the satisfaction that goes along with being there for someone else and it gives you a sense of accomplishment. Volunteering also provides a good topic of conversation during an interview.

Have I been exercising?

Summer is a great time to make physical fitness part of your normal routine. Exercising will help you stay energized, focused, lower your stress level and release feel good endorphins.
