Know Your Job Target

"I'll take anything"

This is the statement we often hear when we ask a job seeker what job he or she is looking for.

While it is good to be flexible and open minded, when the competition is tough it is very important to be well defined and focused.

This is the time when you need to have a very clear definition of who you are so that you can focus your job search campaign and convey your job goal to your network of friends.
  •  Ask yourself - what are my transferable job skills and accomplishments?
  • What is my job target?
Your resume should clearly portray your unique skills and accomplishments. You need to be able to articulate to the prospective employer what you will bring to the work place and how you stand out from the rest of the candidates.
  • Ask yourself- why should this employer choose me over the other candidates?

Answering these questions will make your job search more effective. If this seems overwhelming - a career counselor can assist you with this task.  Just give JVS a call at 248.559.5000.
