A Bounty of Thanks and Opportunities
As Thanksgiving draws near, we want to thank all of our Captains4Kids for their support this past year. We are particularly grateful for all of your hard work and the many successes you achieved, just some of which include:
- conducting over 1,345 direct contacts with legislators about the intergenerational value of quality early care and education
- helping us expand our network to over 800 Captains4Kids
- generating 8 media stories and 13 letters to the editor in newspapers such as The New York Times, Herald-Leader, York Daily Record, and The Asbury Park Press
- securing 13 national aging organizations to co-sign a letter in support of including quality early education and pre-k in the ESEA
We reall y appreciate your help and have a bounty of new opportunities for you to take action this month. Any questions? Contact Anne at 202-777-0119 or awise@gu.org.

Kentucky Seniors4Kids Thanksgiving Campaign
When you think about the ways to help children at Thanksgiving, advocacy might not immediately leap to mind. But important decisions affecting Kentucky's young children, their education, and your community are routinely made at the state and local levels.
In difficult economic times, policy makers must make tough decisions. It can make them feel like real turkeys lately. That's why we are launching a Kentucky Seniors4Kids Thanksgiving Campaign.
As you prepare to spend time with family and friends this Thanksgiving, please take a few minutes to follow our Kentucky Seniors4Kids phone recipe or personalize our sample letter to help Kentucky's children achieve school and lifetime success. It won't take a lot of your time but it could reap a cornucopia of rewards for Kentuckians of all ages.

New York Captains4Kids: Support QUALITYstarsNY
QUALITYstarsNY offers a clear, organized, cost-effective way to measure, improve, and communicate the quality of New York State's early care and learning programs.
In partnership with Winning Beginning New York, New York Seniors4Kids urges Governor Cuomo and the Legislature to fully implement QUALITYstarsNY - to increase the number of kids, programs and teachers supported. You can make a difference today by customizing our sample letters and emailing, faxing, or mailing it to your policymakers. |

Tom's Corner
Dr. T. Berry Brazelton , Harvard professor and early-learning researcher in a recent talk stressed the importance of family when "galvanizing" the community around early learning. Tom notes that it's important to be on the "same team" with a shared goal of protecting child development. "Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, caregivers are all part of a system that impacts a child's development."
