New Team Members at Paragon!

Paragon welcomes several new employees to our Customer Service and Instructor Teams.  You've already met them - some are graduates of our programs or outstanding Instructors returning to our school.  Please help us to welcome back Jasmine Greco, Bree McColl, and Jen Lotterman.  We're very fortunate to have these wonderful people back!  We know you'll be pleased and excited at the improvements and positive changes you'll see at Paragon!

2nd Annual Howloween Contest October 24 - 28, 2011

Paragon Pet of the Month

 Meet Jace Ferrell

This handsome Standard Poodle has been a favorite of ours for years!  His beautiful coat is fun for our students to groom.  We love having him here once a month for "spa day!"

Keep Halloween Safe for Your Pet

We love this time of year.  Candy, costumes, and lots of fun parties make for an exciting time of year.  Help your pet enjoy this festive season with these simple tips:

  • Stress:  Strangers in costume can be a little scary to your pet friends.  Your friendly pet may become fearful and potentially aggressive if he is startled by people in disguise. If he gets nervous from the repeated door bell rings, try keeping him in a quiet room until your trick or treating guests call it a night.
  • Candles and Jack-o-Lanterns:  Wagging tails and frightened cats zooming through the house can easily knock over exposed candles and decorations.
  • General Safety:  Keep your pets inside for the night - especially black cats!
  • Candy:  We all know chocolate is bad for your pet, but some sweeteners can also pose health risks.  Beware of lollipops or other candies with plastic parts that can be a choking hazard.
  • Costumes:  Be sure to keep your pets in view at all times while they are dressed up.  It's easy to get tangled up in costumes.  Some may even be considered worthy of chewing on, so it's best to make sure your pet doesn't ingest her outfit.

Here is a great recipe so your dog
doesn't miss out on all the fun!

TRICKY TREATS FOR DOGS

Makes 14 treats

2 cups water
3/4 cup canned applesauce
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
3 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup white flour
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup oats

  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • In a bowl, mix water, applesauce, vanilla, and egg thoroughly.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, nuts, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon, stirring well.
  • Add wet ingredients to dry and mix well.
  • Spoon into greased muffin tins, filling each cup completely and bake for about 1 1/4 hours. Cool completely and store in a sealed container.

    Jen Lotterman

Jen Lotterman has returned to Paragon as a student Instructor.  She actually trained several members of our staff before leaving to start a family.  Jen is a strong leader with fresh ideas and an eye for quality and safety.   Our students are fortunate to have her back where they can learn from one of the best!

In her spare time, she enjoys knitting and volunteer work.  Jen shares her home with her husband and wonderful children, Isabella, Ellie, and Dylon. Their home is filled with loving pets and she often helps find good homes for animals in need.

    Bree McColl

Bree graduated from Paragon in 2011 and became member of our Customer Service team shortly after completing the program.  She has worked as a full time groomer and has extensive customer service experience.  She is excited to put the skills she has learned as a groomer and in working with the public to good use at the Paragon School of Pet Grooming.

Bree and her husband live with their two dogs.  In her free time she enjoys horseback riding, reading, rollerblading with her dogs, and spending time with her family and friends.

    Jasmine Greco

Jasmine is a 2011 Paragon Graduate who has recently joined our Customer Service team.  Before coming to work with us, she was a full-time groomer in Grand Rapids.  Her background in grooming, combined with her organizational and people skills makes her a perfect fit for her new role.

Jasmine shares her home with her yellow lab, Koda Bear.  When she has spare time, she enjoys doing all things animal-related.  She enjoys volunteering for various animal rescue groups and spending time with family and friends.

    About Us

The Paragon School of Pet Grooming is proud to have you as a valued client.  Our full service grooming is provided by talented and caring men and women who are dedicating themselves to learning the art and science of pet styling.

Our students come from all walks of life, near and far.  Some juggle work and family schedules in addition to their studies at Paragon.  Every student is educated and tested both in class work and practical application of their grooming skills.

From the Grooming Corner - Festive Looks for Your Pet

We love to help your pets look their best!  On your next visit, let us spice up Bailey's look with a festive bow or bandana, created especially for the season.  Boy pups don't need to feel left out - we can attach a cute bow tie to his collar.  We can even paint your dogs' nails for pets with short hair on their feet.

Regular bows are free with your pets' groom and bandanas are $2.00 for small dogs, $3.00 for large dogs.  We will also have special holiday bows that are extra snazzy available for purchase.

Let us help your pet be the star s/he is!  Your friends and family will love it!
    Thinking Ahead for the Holidays

I know... it's too soon to start thinking about the holidays!

We want you to be able to get the appointment times you prefer at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah, and Kwanzaa.  Our books always fill up fast!  At your next grooming appointment, allow us to set your next two to three grooms ahead.  That should get you through the holidays without trying to get in when are books are full!
