Second Annual Kibble Konnection Pet Party!

Dog PartyJune 26, 2010
12 - 4:00 pm

Paragon is proud to once again host the Kibble Konnection Dog Party!  The event will take place on our front lawn and will feature food, games, face painting, and more!  Free nail trims will be offered in our facility, as well as discount coupons for dog grooming services.

The Kibble Konnection helps families provide food and other necessities for pets.  Last year, your generous donations went toward 76,961 pounds of pet food that was collected from March 2009 to March 2010.  We will have volunteers on hand to accept your donated pet food, bedding, and other items.

The tough economic times we have all endured are hard on our pets, as well.  Job losses have forced some families to put their beloved cats and dogs up for adoption.  Thanks to you and The Kibble Konnection, 300 local families received assistance that made it possible to keep their pets.

If you'd like more information, need assistance, or would like to volunteer, call (616) 791-8066, email them at KibbleKonnection@aol.com, or visit their web page, http://www.hskc.org/we-help-pca.htm

Paragon Gives Back
Helping with Disaster Relief in the Gulf of Mexico

As the oil slick spreads in the Gulf of Mexico, communities worldwide have started showing support for one organization that is all ready to clean up the Gulf Coast with a free, low-tech solution: booms made of recycled hosiery andHil Hair Comp hair clippings.

Matter of Trust is an environmental non-profit organization that has helped clean up oil spills in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond since 1998 by reusing donated hair clippings from hair salons, barber shops, pet groomers and wool farmers. Stuffing this donated hair into donated nylon stockings, this organization creates highly absorbent booms to contain oil spills.

The Paragon School of Pet Grooming, and Whiskers Resort and Pet Spa, both founded and owned by Melissa Verplank, will be assisting with disaster relief of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Working with Matter of Trust (matteroftrust.org), Paragon and Whiskers will be donating the hair trimmed from pets during the grooming process.

"Paragon will be acting as a collection center for at least the next 30 days and possibly beyond," Verplank stated. "We're thrilled to find such a worthwhile use for what is typically a waste by-product in the pet grooming process."

Matter of Trust has already received donations from all 50 states and several other countries. Donations include hundreds of thousands of pounds of hair, and many washed nylon pantyhose stockings, which they'll accept even with small runs or tears.

If you would like to donate clean hair or stockings, please drop your donations off at the Paragon School of Pet Grooming Monday through Friday from
7:00 am - 6:00 pm.

How Often Should My Pet Be Groomed?

Does your dog share your home? What about your bed? Dogs need regular grooming and bathing to stay healthy and socially acceptable. Someone gets to do that... either you or a professional.

Different types of breeds grow more coat than others. Some dogs are more active outdoors than others. Some shed more than others. Some mat and tangle more easily than others. Your pets' grooming needs will vary with its' coat type and lifestyle. At the Paragon School of Pet Grooming, we can help you address the grooming needs of your pet.

The old wives' tale telling us that a dog can only be bathed every six months or yearly is untrue. Years ago, we couldn't bathe our pets frequently because shampoos were made from lye and were terribly harsh. Now we have pet shampoos, conditioners and moisturizing sprays that are equal to the finest human hair products.

Pets bathed with professional products, designed to complement the natural PH balance of an animals' skin can - and should - be bathed at least monthly. Some products are designed for bi-weekly or weekly bathing. If you prefer to bathe your pet at home, ask us about the Coat Handler product line. These high quality products are used exclusively at The Paragon School. Their hypo allergenic makeup combined with their effective cleansing action make them a fabulous choice for professional or home use.
