Team Highlight
Karen Sanchez has been a vital part of Paragon since she started in
1999. Her dedication, sparkling personality, and professionalism have made her invaluable to the team, to our pet families, and to our students. Karen is
responsible for the organization of new and existing students as they
embark on their journey in to the world of professional pet styling. From their first days of orientation through graduation, Karen is available to answer questions and to provide any assistance they may need. In
2006, Karen received
her certificate as a professional pet stylist. The many educational seminars she has attended over the years have sharpened the very personable
and professional attitude that she posseses. Karen
shares her home with her three cats: Gizmo, Whiskers, and Shyloh, as well as Memphis, her pit bull/boxer mix who is a regular fixture in the front office. Karen
often takes in special needs pets and enjoys pet sitting at her home.

The Atlanta Pet Fair
Paragon
Founder Melissa Verplank will be a
featured speaker and judge at this year's Atlanta Pet Fair, held March 4-7,
2010. This premier event for professional pet groomers has grown into one of
the largest trade shows in the country for the pet grooming industry. Over the
weekend thousands of pet professionals will focus on expanding their careers by
attending lectures, learning about new products and techniques, plus watching
exhibitions presented by talented members of the pet industry.

Homemade Dog Treats
Looking for a quick and inexpensive way to keep Bailey stocked in delicious dog treats? What could be easier than a bacon flavored biscuit you can prepare in the microwave?
 1 cup flour 3/4 cup dry milk 1/4 cup cornmeal or packaged biscuit mix 1/3 cup bacon drippings 1 beef bouillon cube, smashed 1/2 cup buckwheat flour 1/2 cup instant oatmeal 1 egg 1/2 cup hot water
Combine flour, cornmeal, milk, and oats in a large bowl. Cut in
bacon drippings. Dissolve bouillon in hot water and mix in the egg. Add to bacon drippings. Knead until a
ball forms. Roll to ½" thickness on a lightly floured surface and cut
into bite sized pieces. Microwave at half power for 10 minutes. Let the treats cool overnight.
