Green Goodie Sherman
"The Tank" invades our job site.
When we recently tore down an old fence prior to installing a new vinyl one, we unwittingly unleashed a force of nature. The neighbor had a 70 pound pet tortoise named Sherman who slowly, but surely, invaded our job site in search of food. FYI tortoises will eat just about anything and are VERY persistent.

GREEN GOODIE
If you are planning on staining your deck or exterior wooden structure consider a water soluble wood stain.
A high quality stain, properly applied, can look great and protect as well as an oil based stain. It will also clean up eaisier, and is gentler on the environment.

Carpenter's Corner
Sunshine. It's one of the things we all love about living in Florida. It is also one of the things which can make being outside on your deck or patio in the Summer unbearable. Here are 4 things that give you much needed shade to cool things down a bit...
Pergolas provide dappled shade without trapping heat, and can be equipped with fans.
Trellises can be strategically positioned to block early morning and late afternoon sun from ruining your otherwise comfortable sitting areas.
Shade cloths & Sails provide a contemporary look and feel which blocks the sun and protects from rain as well.
Shade trees The original provider of shade. They are beautiful, timeless, and keep the air you breath clean!

Project of the MonthSouth Tampa Privacy
| Click to see more... | Our Client needed some extra privacy in their back yard. They also needed some shade and privacy for their West facing parking area. As with many of our clients in South Tampa, they needed all of this to look tasteful and blend in with their classic South Tampa home. We built them two pergola style trellises with extra narrow slats for added shade and privacy and painted it all classic white to compliment the clean lines of their home. Confederate jasmine will add a beautiful and fragrent contrast to the white, fill in the privacy gaps, and provide that West exposed driveway with an attractive Sun block. Perfect!

Green GoodieDepending on what time of year it is, two opposing ideas can be very important to Florida home owners. For half of the year it's water conservation. The other half of the year it's water drainage.
Rain barrels can help in both regards. In the dry winter months they will allow you to stockpile rain water for watering plants and grass. In the summer they can provide hundreds of gallons of overflow for your gutter system, which can then be dissipated slowly following heavy summer rains.
Best of all rain barrels come in a wide variety of styles, so you can get the look you want while you help the environment! Whether you do it yourself or have someone like us install them for you it's a good idea with great looking results.

Plant of the Month
Confederate Jasmine(Trachelospermum jasminoides) | Click for more info... |
In keeping with this month's theme of Southern Shade we would like to highlight Confederate Jasmine. It's one of our favorites because, in addition to the intoxicating scent of its blooms, it trains and climbs well. With bushy dark green leaves that look great year round it is a great choice for growing on pergolas and trellises in order to provide beautiful additional protection from the Sun and soften the look of your surroundings. Confederate Jasmine is also easy to grow. It can be grown in containers or directly from the ground. It is drought resistant and is well suited to the ever changing weather conditions of Florida, which makes it a perfect accent or centerpiece for your patio or garden.
