Project of the MonthItalian Courtyard Pergola and Arbors
| Click for time lapse |
A couple of years ago we traveled to Ft. Meyers to build a pergola for a client who had a vision of creating an Italian style courtyard off the side of their home. The client had an alcove on the side of their house, a walkway leading to the back of the home, and a beautiful marble fountain as well. We built the alcove pergola and departed.
Recently, our client had us back. The courtyard had filled in beautifully with foliage. The shrubs had grown to a height which provided plenty of privacy, Bouganvilla had overtaken the pergola, and Italian Cypress framed everything in for a classic presentation.
We completed the look by removing three aging metal arbors and replacing them with three hand crafted wooden trellised arbors along the rear walkway. In short order the Confederate Jasmine will grow over the arbors and create an incredible canopy over the walkway leading back to the pergola. It will look phenomenal, and will smell great too! What a great place to relax and listen to the fountain. Ciao bella!

Plant of the Month
Bougainvillea | Click for more info... |
Beautiful and strong. Bougainvilleas have a lot going for them as ornamental vines. They are fast growing. They can be trained in a number of ways. They are hardy. They produce thick curtains of flower-like bracts in a multitude of attractive colors, and they thrive in Florida's climate. If you are looking for a way to add color and volume to your surroundings this is a plant that carries the load well. It is drought resistant and grows readily in most kinds of soil, although you should make sure the soil is well drained. Also be aware that Bougainvillea does have treacherously long, sharp thorns, so it is advisable to keep them away from high traffic areas. On the other side of the coin, properly placed Bougainvilleas can make effective intruder blockers.
