GREEN GOODIE
August is one of the hottest and wettest months in Florida. The continuous heavy rains of the last few months can really leach nutrients from the soil. Check with your local garden center to see about re-nourishing your soil with an eco-friendly fertilizer before heading into Fall. | |

Rain Lily
(Zephyranthes and Habranthus)
There are over seventy species of flowers known as Rain lilies. There are a large variety of colors, shapes, and sizes to choose from as well as differing hardiness levels. These characteristics make it possible to find rain lilies to compliment almost any garden in Florida.
Rain lilies can be easily propagated, are self sufficient growers, aren't bothered by pests, and can bloom from Spring right on through the Fall. Not to mention-they're beautiful!
To learn more about rain lilies, including propagation and care, click on the photo above or the link below.

There are ways you can help, and being knowledgeable about what to look for and how to deal with it is step one. As always, the University of Florida IFAS extension is a wealth of helpful information. Click on the link below to get a great overview of some common pests and how to manage them...
