GREEN GOODIE
With Summer, and heavy rains, upon us, now is a good time to remember to adjust your irrigation systems to avoid over watering. By doing so, you will have a healthier lawn, save on your water bill, and do the right thing for water conservation!
You may want to install an inexpensive "rain shutoff" device on your irrigation system to help you with this. You can pick one up at your local home improvement store. | |

GREEN GOODIE!
Heavy summer rains can leech the soil of nutrients, so you may be tempted to compensate with extra fertalization.
Before you do fertalize, ask your garden center or landscaping professional what products you can use to minimize runnoff into our fragile lakes, rivers, and estuaries.

Project of the Month
Italian Courtyard Retreat
|
Click to see time lapse... |
Our latest clients had been remodeling the interior of their home for a while and were ready to move on the the last stage, the back yard.
As it happens, they had something unusual for a south Tampa home, a decent sized property! They had some room to work with outside the back door and wanted to turn it into a nice entertainment area to transition to the back yard.
We built them a unique pergola with a peaked rafter roof and extended the back beam to create an archway entry to the yard. We also removed their old, dilapidated deckway to the backdoors and replaced it with a new contemporary stepdown deck. Let the yard parties begin!

PLANT OF THE MONTH

Pentas
(Pentas lanceolata)
Mid-summer heat in Florida can be brutal on more delicate plants and flowers. Pentas is a hardy, non-invasive plant which can take the heat and will produce beautiful red, pink, white, or lavender flowers all the way through the summer.
They are tolerant of a variety of soil types and will flourish in anything from direct sun to variable shade. They are also favored by butterflies and humming birds, but are virtually unaffected by pests.
All in all, Pentas is a beautiful flowering plant which thrives in the hot, sunny gardens of Florida!

Dragonfly Garden?

|
Click for more info... |
That's right. We've all heard of butterfly gardens, but who ever has heard of a dragonfly garden? Well, as insects go dragonflies are probably my favorite. Why? There are over 400 species and many of them, with stunning iridescent colors, are quite beautiful. But best of all they are voracious eaters of mosquitoes, flies, gnats, and aphids! Who couldn't use a little help with those pests?
Follow the link below for great information on attracting these
beautiful and beneficial insects to your yard!
