____________
Wait for it...
As we move into spring wait until your grass greens up completely before feeding it. Feed with a fertilizer that contains no phosphorus and water the lawn only as needed; overwatering causes thatch.

Looking For The Lowest Price?
What is the Cost of That Low Price?
People have been cutting back on all sorts of items to get the most possible mileage out of a dollar. More and more often families are opting to forgo things like vacation travel and dining out in favor of spending their hard earned money on making their home and garden more comfortable and entertaining. As someone who gets to see the ins and outs of the home & garden improvement business we are often asked what to look for to get the best deal on home improvement projects.
My advice to those who would listen, regardless of the type of project, is always the same. Look for the best value. To get the best value it is important to understand the difference between PRICE and COST. Defined most simply, price is the amount of money you pay for something. Cost is everything you have to give up to obtain something. But wait! Aren't they the same thing? No, they are not. Let me explain what I mean... please visit our blog.....www.gardencarpentry.com/blog |

We recently finished this Tuscan style custom wood pergola in the Oldsmar area of Tampa. The home owners, who live on a canal, were in the process of installing a swimming pool which will take up all of the available space in the back yard along the canal.
The pergola will serve multiple purposes. First, it will create a beautiful transition piece to tie the front of the house together with the new entertainment area in back. Second, it will help keep the client's Southward facing dinning room cooler, and will reduce air conditioning costs in the summer by providing shade from the Sun's intense direct rays. Most importantly, it creates a quiet and shady spot of solitude for Mom to enjoy while still keeping an eye on the kids while they use the pool.
Once the wood has completely cured, the pergola will be painted white and the walkway area will be filled in with greenery to complete the feel of a beautiful Tuscan getaway spot. So stay tuned for the great end results. |
We Never Knew!
Odd and unusual laws
1. In Texas a newly released prisonor has the right to a horse and a shotgun, if they request it verbally.
2. In Oklahoma violators face a fin if they are caught making ugly faces at a dog.
3. In Michigan it is illegal to paint a sparrow yellow and sell it as a parakeet. |

green goodies Plant of the Month-Indian Blanket

| Plant of the Month
Indian Blanket &Tampa Verbena
Indian blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) is a short-lived perennial or annual noted for its brilliant, daisy-like flowers. The large centers of the flowers are rose-purple and the dense, frilly petals are yellow, orange, crimson or copper scarlet.
They like lots of sun and are drought tolerant, while they can stand being in wet soil, they prefer to have their root systems dried out between waterings. Deadheading or cutting off the flowers after they bloom will increase the amount of flowers that you will get from each plant. They are native to North America and will readily reseed themselves for the next year. Plant a few this year and watch them come up year after year.
Verbena bloom all summer long

|
Put some Tampa verbena around the edge of the Indian Blanket for a real splash of colors that will last throughout the summer. Corolla colors include white, pink, crimson, scarlet, purple, blue, and yellow, and each flower usually has a white central eye. Some varieties have a fragrance. The blooming period lasts throughout the summer and autumn. Trailing varieties may extend 1-2 ft (30-60 cm), and the largest erect forms may top out at 18 in (45 cm).
Mix the two plants together and have that country garden look with the least amount of effort. They will intertwine with each other and the combination is dynamite.
A special thanks to Paul at wild rose lawncare. They create outstanding landscapes. |
