Save your trees Support your vines.

Vines like to climb.  If you don't provide support structres for them, they gravitate to your trees.  There, they will steal light and nutrients.
Maximize the full beauty of viney plants by training them to grow on trellises, arbors, or walls.
Give your trees a break.

Pergola Reignites the Romance...

romantic pergola frames out a great outdoor room www.gardencarpentry. comThe passion is gone. What was once new and exciting, is now routine and uninspired. It used to be that you couldn't wait to get home from work and lose yourself in giving hours of your undivided attention and time. Now, it's just something you do on weekends once in a while, and even that has grown tired and stale. Yes, you are falling out of love...

The Pansy

The pansy is a perennial plant that is grown as an annual by most gardeners. It thrives in cooler weather and has become a popular winter annual in Florida and similar warm climates. Pansies form small mounds of deep green foliage that are resistant to light frosts.
With this year's cold, it has been one of the best plants around that "dodges" the damages caused by the cold. The plants smile back at you with a "face" formed by a whimsical patterning of color blotches, making the pansy the happiest plant in the garden. With expressions ranging from mischievous to adorable to jolly, pansies are the pixies of the plant world.

Pansies are not fussy about soil. Do, however, add organic matter if your soil is very light and sandy to help retain moisture, and prevent plants from wilting in bright sun. Fertilize when setting out to insure a good display of flowers.

They can grow in a wide range of light. From bright sun to partial shade. It will even grow in deep shade but expect fewer flowers and the stems may become 'leggier'. Pansies will take the Florida rains but likes for the ground to be dry before rewatering.  In our zone the pansy is a favorite winter flower in all the nurseries. It sometimes gets overlooked for the more spectacular flowering plants, but there is great beauty and satisfaction in knowing that the plant colors and hardiness of the plant will almost assure that they will be around throughout the winter season.  Pansies do not, however, enjoy the Florida summertime temperatures.

THANKS!!

 Thankful for what I have

Being the owner of a small, business today certainly comes with its share of stress.  The phone calls, the bills to pay, clients to see; they all keep me very busy.  Sometimes it seems as though the deals that I didn't close could be the end of the world, or the lumber delivery delay is a catastrophy.

Then I see the news footage form our neighbor to they South, Haiti, and things suddenly look a lot different to me.  The death and devastation that I see in the papers and online make me cringe.  I am sadened for the children of Haiti and horrified by how agonizing it must be for the parents of the lost chilren.

It all makes me want to hold both of my boys closer, and thank God for thier health. It makes me kiss my wife a little more often and makes me thankful for all that I have... Clean water to drink...food to give my family... a sturdy dwelling to live in....electricity to heat my home....a hospital if my child is hurt. These are things we often take for granted, but cannot live without.

Sometimes we must see how terrible life can be in order to realize how good things are in this country. God bless the people of Haiti, and may good things arise from this tradgedy.
