PASTOR'S CORNER
Hackwin Devoe, a student at Columbia Theological Seminary, needed a place where he could complete his supervised ministry course; Rev. Kim Clayton thought of Memorial Drive. Sunday the Session voted to accept Hackwin as our intern. We didn't know how we were going to cover his stipend but we trusted that God would make a way; we stepped out in faith and trusted that God was with us. Monday I went by the seminary to pick up the paperwork. When I shared the good news with Dominique at the seminary, and our concerns about how we were going to cover his stipend, she said, "That sounds like a formal request for a scholarship, I will put it in for you." Less than 24 hours after we stepped out in faith, God answered our prayers! Thanks be to God! I know we will all look forward to Hackwin and his gifts blessing this congregation.
In Christ,
George
Week 4 - 17th Sunday after Pentecost, September 23, 2012.
But he was in the stern of the boat, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care that we are perishing?" Mark 4:38.
In the midst of the raging storm, the disciples are amazed that Jesus is not concerned, for them or apparently even for himself! It turns out that Jesus was unconcerned because he was master of wind and sea.
In the midst of the raging storms that life can bring upon us, it's important to remember that Jesus is master of those storms too.
