Following the United Methodist Church conference - similar to our General Assembly - someone commented on a Bishop's blog that the conversation of change was going to continue, inviting him to participate.
The Bishop agreed it was a good idea and said he would mention to the Council of Bishop's about organizing some talking sessions at the Jurisdictional Conferences which are happening in July.
She replied, "No Bishop, we have already organized this conversation to happen on Twitter at #DreamUMC. It is a movement open to everyone to dream a new future for our church."
The bishop never responded.
Whether you Tweet, have never Tweeted, or don't give a Tweet about Tweeting, there is an important grassroots conversation that is happening in the PCUSA on Twitter at: #DreamPCUSA
This is one of the places that 20-30 year olds are talking about faith, theology, and their spiritual growth and development.
The mantra of the church is, "We need more young people!"
Well if we take what we say seriously, then we need to meet them where they are, hear about their concerns, and make room for them at the big table instead of sitting them in the kitchen while the grown-ups have dinner in the dining room.
