Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, January 29, 2012, lectionarythe Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

Anyone can ask and anyone can bless, whether anyone has authorized you to do it or not. All I am saying is that the world needs you to do this, because there is a real shortage of people willing to kneel wherever they are and recognize the holiness holding its sometimes bony, often tender, always life-giving hand above their heads. That we are able to bless one another at all is evidence that we have been blessed, whether we can remember when or not. That we are willing to bless one another is miracle enough to stagger the very stars.
- Barbara Brown Taylor from her book An Altar in the World.

Be blessed,
George

Most weeks we will gather to pack bags at 6:30 pm. However, to accomodate those with different schedules, we will gather at 4:30 pm every third week: January 19, February 9, March 1, March 22, April 12, and May 3.

We need MDPC volunteers to come in this Thursday, January 26 at 6:30 pm in the Jim Guess Building to help pack the bags with food for the Indian Creek Elementary Children.

JOINT ELDER TRAINING                Jan. 28, 2012 - Calvin Center

TIP OF THE ICEBERG

Calvin Center is hosting Tip of the Iceberg: Discussions on Spirituality & Sexuality on February 10-12. The purpose of this retreat is to create a safe place for all to begin or continue to understand the multi-faceted nature of sexuality. This holistic approach includes appreciation for the theological, emotional, physical and spiritual nature of our bodies as more than just flesh and bone but a holy assembly of God's design. We affirm that our sexuality is a part of who we are in God's creation. This retreat will be educational as well as fun! Recreational opportunities will include horseback riding, ropes course activities, and other fun games. All youth are encouraged to attend. For more information, or to register, contact Steven Bohn at steven@calvincenter.org

RADICAL HOSPITALITY LUNCHEON

The Mission and Membership Committee will be hosting our first Radical Hospitality Luncheon on February 19th immediately after worship from 12-2pm. Lunch and materials will be provided.

Radical hospitality is our active desire to invite, welcome, receive, and care for strangers until they find a spiritual home and discover for themselves the unending richness of life in Christ. How we invite, welcome, and care for visitors and guests is a practice that must be nurtured and developed by the whole congregation! Come and grow in faith and faithfulness!
