When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." Matthew 13:14-16
In September two teachers reached out to the community because their students were coming to school hungry. As a church we responded, "They do not need to go home hungry, we will give them something to eat."
This Thursday, together with faculty and administration from Indian Creek and members of
Shallowford Presbyterian, we will be giving these hungry children something to eat.
Of equal importance is our opportunity to meet people from the community: teachers, administrators, college students, and others who share our interests. Many of them are seeking more than an opportunity to serve; they are seeking to connect, to find meaning in life and they are looking for a community where they can be encouraged to discover their gifts.
We need to show them the radical hospitality of Christ and welcome them to MDPC with open arms.
We need volunteers to welcome our guests on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm. Dil has created an on-line sign-up sheet exclusively for MDPC - there is a separate sheet for community volunteers. Even if you can't get on the list this Thursday, please come and see what God is doing in our midst and learn how you can get involved. Everything you need to know will be covered on Thursdays at 6:30 pm. Make your commitment to serving as an ambassador of hospitality for MDPC once a month, or for the month of April or May, but make a commitment to the ministry of Memorial Drive.
