Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, November 6, 2011
, the Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)
I want to share with you all something of my journey of faith. In thinking about my past generosity I realized that the one thing that has always been missing when it came time to make a commitment to the church was prayerful consideration. Even my decision to give a tenth of my salary back to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church was made without prayer; I simply took the Biblical standard and applied it to myself; I mean how could I expect anyone in the congregation to tithe if I wasn't willling to do so myself? This year is different. I am asking God to inspire me to greater generosity in sharing the gifts that I have been given. I am asking God to challenge me to be a more faithful steward of my wealth, time, and talents. I am asking God to build within me a "spirit of gratitude" for the many blessings I have received.
How is your life enriched through our worship, service, and community, is it in the: inspiration of a sermon, a well taught lesson, the smile of a family receiving a holiday box of food? How has the church been a blessing to you in your life, is it in the: prayers for you when your world is in chaos, a warm embrace during the passing of the peace, an opportunity to serve Christ by serving children, or the lasting friendships that have developed in our welcoming congregation? How will you respond with gratitude to the many blessings made possible through this community of faith?
November 13th is Dedication Sunday, the day that we make a very visible commitment to the mission and ministry of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. Please pray for guidance and inspiration as you think about the many ways in which God has blessed your life and how you are going to respond.
Peace of Christ Always,
George
