Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, October 2, 2011, the Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

Our Season of Discernment began this past Saturday with a wonderful time of sharing led by Robby Carroll and Jihyun Oh. I was blessed to share some time with Gloria Moss who has been a member since 1955. She told me that the founding pastor had a saying, "The best part of the sandwich is in the middle." While Rev. Gillespie was referring to the fact that the church was located between the Baptists and the Methodists, I would like to think that this saying of his is fitting for us as well. We find ourselves between the founding vision of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and the future where God is calling us. Lettuce relish this time, toast our successes, and thank God for the broken bread that holds us all together!
