Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, September 11, 2011, the Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

"The God of the Bible is a God who makes covenant. The object of that solidarity is characteristically the weak, poor, and marginal, who without such a partner have no voice or visibility in history as it is ordered by empire. Thus, it is in the very character of  God to be engaged for and available to those without social power of social possibility." W.Brueggemann

What makes church different from the Rotary Club or Kiwanis is our covenant with God.  God sums it up best, "I will be your God, you will be my people."  All of our good works, acts of kindness and giving, must be done with the covenant in mind, we must act as God's people and thank and praise God for the resources to reach out to those in need.  All that we have is a gift from our God, all that we do is because of God's love.

 Peace of Christ Always,

George

We are gearing up for the Holiday Boxes. This is a long standing and vital mission for the church and the community and everybody is encouraged to get involved.

  1. Set aside $5 a week for the next 7 weeks (less than the cost of a #1 value meal and better for you).
  2. Make a one-time contribution of $20, $35, or more to the Holiday Box Fund.
  3. Set aside December 3rd at 8:00am as a time that you are going to set aside and give to God in faithful service to the needy in our community, working side by side with fellow members of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
