Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, September 4, 2011, the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

Hale-hale-hale-lujah has been our gathering song after the passing of the peace for several months now. I know that for many of you this will come as a shock, but the time has come to stretch our vocal cords with a new song and new lyrics to learn. "But George," they will say, "I finally learned all the words to Hale-hale-hale and got my lu-u-jah sounding just right." Alas, I too will miss it. The good news is that I'm Gonna Live so God Can Use Me is just as fun and easy to learn.

I'm gonna live so God can use me anywhere, Lord, anytime!

I'm gonna live so God can use me anywhere, Lord, anytime!

I'm gonna work so ....

I'm gonna pray so ...
I'm gonna sing so...

I look forward to singing, praying, working, and living with you and this new gathering song.

  Praise

 Peace of Christ Always,

George

SERVICE OF HEALING AND WHOLENESS

 healing

Each Wednesday at 11:00 am we will:

pray for those on the prayer list, read and meditate on Scripture, and pray for the church and each other.

Everybody is welcome!

HOLIDAY BOXES

 Holiday Boxes

We are gearing up for the Holiday Boxes. This is a long standing and vital mission for the church and the community and everybody is encouraged to get involved.

  1. Set aside $5 a week for the next 7 weeks (less than the cost of a #1 value meal and better for you).
  2. Make a one-time contribution of $20, $35, or more to the Holiday Box Fund.
  3. Set aside December 3rd at 8:00am as a time that you are going to set aside and give to God in faithful service to the needy in our community, working side by side with fellow members of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.

    1. We will gather in the Jim Guess Activities Building and pack over 100 boxes of food.
    2. We will have a Service of Commissioning to prepare us to go out into the community.
    3. We will go out into the community and meet families in need.
    4. We will get to know them by name and pray for their needs.
    5. We will invite them to join us at church.
    6. We will invite them to join us in our mission to serve God by serving others.
    7. We will celebrate the work that God has enabled us to do.

You can see that there are a lot of ways to get involved. "So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7).

GUEST MUSICIAN

Our guest musician for September 4th is Allan Wiltshire - the Mission Minded Artist! I will tell you that this service is going to be one that people will be talking about for a long time. In the words of Paul, "I exhort you!" not to miss it. Not only is he a great musician, but he also has the gift of building missions, you can read about his work at
