Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, August 28, 2011, the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

Exodus 3:1-15

When Moses asks God his name, God [replies my] name is YHWH, which comes from the Hebrew verb "to be" and means [either] "I am what I am" or "I will be what I will be." The original text of the Old Testament didn't include vowels, so YHWH is all that appears. The result of this pious practice was that in time no one knew any longer what vowels belonged in between the four constants, and thus the proper pronunciation of God's name was lost.

SERVICE OF HEALING AND WHOLENESS

 healing

There is a time change for The Service of Healing and Wholeness.

Each Wednesday at 11:00 am we will:

pray for those on the prayer list, read and meditate on Scripture, and pray for the church and each other.

Everybody is welcome!

HOSPITALITY TEAM

We are building a Hospitality Team to serve as greeters before worship and during church functions. If you are interested in being a part of this team, contact Pastor Tatro at mdpcpastor@bellsouth.net or Derick Enriquez. Derick will be coordinating volunteers each Sunday.

welcome

HOLIDAY BOXES

 Holiday Boxes

We are gearing up for the Holiday Boxes. This is a long standing and vital mission for the church and the community and everybody is encouraged to get involved.

  1. Set aside $5 a week for the next 7 weeks (less than the cost of a #1 value meal and better for you).
  2. Make a one-time contribution of $20, $35, or more to the Holiday Box Fund.
  3. Set aside December 3rd at 8:00am as a time that you are going to set aside and give to God in faithful service to the needy in our community, working side by side with fellow members of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.

    1. We will gather in the Jim Guess Activities Building and pack over 100 boxes of food.
    2. We will have a Service of Commissioning to prepare us to go out into the community.
    3. We will go out into the community and meet families in need.
    4. We will get to know them by name and pray for their needs.
    5. We will invite them to join us at church.
    6. We will invite them to join us in our mission to serve God by serving others.
    7. We will celebrate the work that God has enabled us to do.

You can see that there are a lot of ways to get involved. "So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7).
