In his commentary on Matthew, Thomas Long writes:
"The image of the disciples in the boat with Jesus on a tranquil sea, worshipping and confessing their faith, may well reflect the church on the Lord's Day, at Sabbath rest. But Sunday is not the only day of the week, and the church does not exist to float around in a sabbath sea all by itself praising Jesus. The boat comes eventually to land, and the healing work of Jesus (and the church) continues (Matthew 14:34-35)."
What a comfort it is to have a sturdy boat like MDPC where we can worship and praise the Lord.
What a challenge it is to know that we exist to carry out the healing work of Jesus in the world.
What a comfort it is to know that we are not alone - that Christ is with us, praying for us, and showering us with his grace and mercy.
Peace of Christ Always,
George
Continuing Education
Rev. McLaughlin and I will be spending Monday through Thursday morning in Hayesville, NC. We will be working through the lectionary, planning worship through Advent, and reflecting on Tribal Church:Ministering to the Missing Generation by Carol Howard Merritt. Well that is the plan at least, I fear that we might have bitten off more than we can chew. I ask that you pray for the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit to keep us both focused and inspired.
On Thursday, I have a First Call Pastor's Meeting and a MDPCCP Meeting later in the evening, so I may not be able to get back with you until Friday (except in the case of emergencies).
Here is a link about the ministry Rev. McLaughlin started with his church:
If you have a pastoral care emergency or concern contact Dil in the office at 404.292.8212 to get a message either to Pastor George Tatro or Rev. Jihyun Oh.
