Matthew 14:25 "And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea."

In last week's sermon I shared with you all my day on the lake. Clear skies, calm waters, and a steady wind made for great sailing. In this week's lectionary the disciples don't have it so good; high seas and winds tossed the boat around and these experienced fishermen were afraid.

Jesus came to them, in the midst of the chaos, breaking through the battering wind and seas, and bringing with him calm and peace. Hear the good news! We don't have to live in chaos; Jesus brings his peace to those who call on his name!

Here is a fun little clip of the "Jesus Lizard", enjoy.

Peace of Christ Always,

George

WORSHIP

"Born in a Barn" will be playing the music on Sunday, August 7.  Please join us.  Bring a friend.

"Born in a Barn" is a group of amateur musicians who share a love for bluegrass and old time gospel music. Founded at some point in the very early 21st century, their influences are broad and range from Ralph Stanley and the Carter Family to John Prine and Steve Earle. "Born in a Barn" has performed at numerous high profile events, including ice cream socials, Masonic dinners, homecomings, and family reunions. The band's current goal is to land their dream gig at a chili cook off.

The current roster features any or all of the following musicians in some combination, in addition to any special guest artist whose orbit is affected by the band's gravity, or who just look like they might need some barbeque.

Brian Ivey: Guitar and Lead Vocals

Patty Ivey: Mandolin and Vocals

Grace Ivey: Banjo and Vocals

David Caudell: Banjo and Vocals

Paul Bates: Mandolin

Don Sinise: Mandolin

Sheldon Fisher: Fiddle and Vocals

A Note from Katie Archibald-Woodward...

(MDPC's  2010 Summer Intern)

I am back in the States again, though briefly. It is a summer of traveling for me and I am loving it so far. I was traveling in the Middle East for three weeks with the Middle East Travel Seminar with other seminarians and lay people and led by two archeologists. I am off to China for three weeks on the 29th to study and work with Chinese pastors through the Outreach Foundation. In between I am traveling to various states for weddings (it's that time of my life it seems) and studying for the ordination exams which are in August. I could really use your prayers regarding those!

I am considering this summer's schedule as an opportunity to help discern if this is a lifestyle God might be inviting me into.I am also taking inventory in the midst of my travels of what I manage well physically, emotionally, spiritually and what I need to work on.I already see a necessity for growth in discipline and responsibility. How I use my time is more crucial now.I must also be even more observant and alert as there are so many details to keep track of and so many people in different places I am obligated to be in contact with at once.It is quite a summer of learning, observation, and self-assessment.

I am so grateful for all the experiences that I have been having. We shall see how God uses them all. I am left still unsure of God's more specific call on my life. The more I travel and the more connections I make the more I see my direction change. At this time then I find reassurance in the belief: if I am present God will reveal at just the right time the way I am to go and how I am to be used.
