It has been a truly amazing summer here at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church! We have helped over one hundred children in the community between the Summer Camp hosted through MDPCCP and the missionaries from Friends of Refugees and Global Frontier Missions. This is the last week for the camps and soon the Donnell Building and the Jim Guess Building will be less busy with outreach.
This week's lectionary reading is one of the most familiar of Jesus' miracles - The Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. After a full day of healing the sick and mending the broken, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves." Jesus said to them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat."
Summer is coming to an end, the hour is late, what might Jesus be telling us?

Presbytery was so warmly received by Alpharetta Presbyterian Church and the many volunteers who helped us throughout the morning! We gathered at 9:00 AM and concluded our worship and work by 1:00 PM. Here are some of the highlights from this past Saturday's meeting:
- Rev. Hardy Kim preached on the challenges of "moving" forward as a denomination;
- A Mission Fair of our Ecumenical Partners with an opportunity to discuss the work of these organizations: Villa International, Thornwell Home for Children, The Duvall Home, Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services of Atlanta, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, Presbyterian College, Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary, and Columbia Theological Seminary;
- Beautiful choral music by the Alpharetta adult and youth choirs;
- The reception of one new member to Presbytery: Jae Wuk Cho;
- Three Inquirers becoming candidates: Jason Hammersley (Korean Community), Hee Chong Yoo, Norcross, and Eric Thomas (Rock Spring);
- The Presbytery approved (with amendment) the new Manual portion on "Council." This will be posted on the PGA website by August 1; and
- A job description for the Stated Clerk was approved.
If you would like to share any comments or reflections about the Presbytery meeting, please fill out our survey!
The next Stated Meeting of the Presbytery is September 20, 2011 at McDonough PC from 9:00 AM to 12:45 PM.
