Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, July 24, 2011, the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

The spiritual practice of hospitality is one way to sustain our own relationship with God and become increasingly open to the diversity of persons whom God calls. When we practice hospitality, we are listening for the soul's desire to flourish and feel at home. Listening for the Soul by Jean Stairs

We have opened our doors to many groups this summer who have come to our neighborhood seeking God's call and this is a wonderful first step. I encourage everyone to join us on Wednesday in the Jim Guess Building and listen to others as they share how God is at work in their mission. Listen too for where God is calling you to flourish and grow right where you are planted.

Peace of Christ Always,

George

PHONEMIC AWARENESS

On July 13 and 14th, MDPC hosted a Phonemic Awareness workshop for teachers in metro Atlanta. The Hudson Help workshop is sponsored by the Georgia Preschool Association.

The 2-day sessions, designed for pre-Kindergarten teachers, acquainted them with a variety of activities to confidently teach listening, rhyming, awareness of sounds, proper letter-sound pronunciation, and other literacy development skills that research has identified as essential for success in learning to read. There were 40 participants and the sessions were directed by Betsy Primm, Ed.S. with assistance from additional Master Trainers in Phonemic Awareness.

The teachers all left enthusiastic about the work they would now be able to do in the classroom. With these 40 teachers, hundreds of students will benefit from the work done at MDPC .
