Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, July 10, 2011, the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

 Chester

Back in July of 2004, at the beginning of my seminary career, I sat down next to Chester Craig Topple; it was, as Bogart says in Casablanca, "The beginning of a beautiful friendship." Our friendship has been blessed by God throughout the years and I am truly grateful that God put him into my life: to struggle through Greek, to journey in Mexico, to pray, and to play. God brings people together so that we can bring out the best in each other: sharing our lives, journeying together, and building a community. My prayer is that at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church you will find friends and a community to journey with you on your pilgrimage.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT FELLOWSHIP

No Wednesday Night Fellowship this week.

Fellowship with Global Frontier Missions will resume on July 13 in the Activities Building. Please bring a potluck to share.

The Wednesday Night Fellowship on July 20th is going to be a real party as we are hosting Global Frontier Missions and the Youth Group from Florida.  Everyone is encouraged to come, bring a covered dish, and share in the fun! This party is going to be so big that only the Jim Guess Building can contain it! So mark your calendar for this wonderful event!

A MESSAGE FROM GLOBAL GROWERS NETWORK COORDINATOR

Greetings Global Growers--

Susan and I will be hosting a Global Growers Network meeting on July 10th, 6pm-8pm at the Jolly Avenue Community Garden. This is our second go-round to host a cook-out for Network project leaders and stakeholders at the lovely Jolly Ave Garden, so please come hungry!

We are planning to share Network updates and opportunities, check in with project leaders, and take some first steps to constructing a far-reaching food systems plan for the greater Clarkston community. Additionally, there will be some casual time for folks to chat and share information -- in the spirit of a Network! Please feel free to invite community members who are interested in growing.

Kindly let us know if you (and guests) plan to attend so that we can arrange for food. You're welcome to bring a dish to share if you've got a summer bounty in your garden, but do not feel obligated whatsoever.

Robin

Date: Sunday, July 10th from 6pm-8pm

Location:725 Jolly Avenue SOUTH.  (If you are mapping, be sure to go to Jolly Avenue South, near Indian Creek Way, otherwise you will end up on the wrong side of the tracks/Ponce from where you want to be.)  The house has a big wood fence, so it's easy to spot.

Parking:You can park anywhere in front of the house where you don't see food growing. If it looks full, you can park on the street or across the street in Kristopher Woods Apartments.

We regret to announce that Dot McWilliams died yesterday - July 4.

The visitation for Dot McWilliams is scheduled for Wednesday, July 6th, from 6pm - 8pm at:

Floral Hills Memorial Garden in Tucker, Ga.

3000 Lawrenceville Highway
Tucker, GA 30084

Celebration of the Life and Witness to the Resurrection for Dot McWilliams will be held in the sanctuary of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 7th, at 11am.

CHURCH ASSESSMENT TOOL

The Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and our congregational consultant Rev. Penny Hill have given us a wonderful resource for focusing our vision. The Church Assessment Tool or CAT Scan is being customized for Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and will be ready soon. Full participation by the congregation will give the Session and staff the information it needs to plan for the future. Keep your eyes open for further updates.

VACATION

I will be on vacation from July 11-18th. In case of a Pastoral Care emergency or concern contact Dil and she will get a message to Jihyun or me.
