G2Revised Common Lectionary Readings for Sunday, July 3, 2011, the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)

This summer, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, every Monday through Thursday is a World Refugee Day as we partner in ministry and serve the refugee children of Clarkston.

This ministry is a wonderful reminder of the abundance of God's provision for the work of the kingdom. We have a wonderful facility to share with gifted missionaries - this week from Chicago - as together we reach the "little ones"* in our neighborhood. There is a lot of learning and tutoring happening in the Donnell Building classrooms; there is a lot of fun play in the Jim Guess Activities Building; there is a real sense of the work of the Holy Spirit happening everywhere at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. This partnership has also given Veronica a chance to share her gifts and talents; isn't it wonderful how God is at work with our youth!

I encourage everyone to join us Wednesday nights at 6pm for a pot-luck fellowship with Global Frontier Missions - growing together in service of Christ.

A MESSAGE FROM GLOBAL GROWERS NETWORK COORDINATOR

 Greetings Global Growers--

I hope we're all taking advantage of these long summer days and the abundance of fresh vegetables in our gardens. Susan and I will be hosting a Global Growers Network meeting on July 10th, 6pm-8pm at the Jolly Avenue Community Garden. This is our second go-round to host a cook-out for Network project leaders and stakeholders at the lovely Jolly Ave Garden, so please come hungry! Hopefully the weather will not drive us indoors this time around.

We are planning to share Network updates and opportunities, check in with project leaders, and take some first steps to constructing a far-reaching food systems plan for the greater Clarkston community. Additionally, there will be some casual time for folks to chat and share information -- in the spirit of a Network! Please feel free to invite community members who are interested in growing.

Kindly let us know if you (and guests) plan to attend by Friday, July 1st, so that we can arrange for food. You're welcome to bring a dish to share if you've got a summer bounty in your garden, but do not feel obligated whatsoever. We will send a reminder email with an agenda a week before the event.

Looking forward to catching up with all of you and hopefully seeing some new faces as well. Enjoy the summer solstice tomorrow!

Robin
