MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE
THURSDAY, APRIL 21 at 6:30 pm

Named from the Latin phrase maundatum novum, meaning "new commandment," Maundy Thursday commemorates the night Jesus said, "I give you a new commandment: that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." (Jn 13:35)
Agape Meal
"Agape" is a Greek word for the highest form of love, which is unconditional and self-giving. In the early Church, Christians met regularly to share an agape or fellowship meal. This was an extension of the Passover supper tradition, and was a way for believers to show each other the love and unity they shared in Christ. Rich and poor, widows and orphans, ordinary people, masters and slaves met together as equals, sharing a common meal. It was a time of rich blessing. Following this tradition, at the conclusion of our meal we will celebrate the Eucharist, which is "thanks-giving". It is an opportunity for us to participate in the means of grace established by Christ at the Last Supper.
Reservations are needed for The Agape Meal. $5 per person. Please call the church office 404-292-8212 to make reservations.

Tenebrae

"Tenebrae" is Latin for "shadows". A tenebrae service provides the worshipper with an opportunity to reflect deeply upon the sacrifice Christ made for us in his suffering and death. It begins in subdued lighting, and the sanctuary gets progressively darker as the shadow of death looms further and further over Jesus' life.
GOOD FRIDAY
FRIDAY, APRIL 22 at 12 noon

Good Friday marks the death of Jesus Christ. It's called 'good' because of what Jesus' death means for the redemption of the world. Worship on this day may focus on three aims: (1) to narrate and remember the events of Jesus' death, (2) to open up for our understanding the meaning of these events and the redemption accomplished by the cross, and (3) to invite worshipers to a renewed spiritual life of prayer and service.
