Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of our Lenten journey and our preparations for Easter. We begin this journey by acknowledging our need for repentence and the mercy and forgiveness proclaimed in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. I invite you, therefore, in the name of Christ to observe a holy lent, by examination and penitence, prayer and fasting, works of love, and by reading and meditating on the Word of God each day. The daily lectionary can be found at: http://gamc.pcusa.org/devotion/revised-common-lectionary/2011/3/9/
Please pray daily for the church, the Session, and for the community that surrounds us asking God to show us how we can better serve God's purposes for us.
Peace always,
George

From your Interim Organist Ecclesiastes 3 doesn't exactly say this, but in the list naming everything that has a season, the words "there's a time to begin and a time to end" are surely implied. I began my ministry here at MDPC nearly 17 years ago, and now it is time for it to end and for me to say goodbye - a very belated one as it happens. Apart from the fact that I am well beyond the normal retirement age, in many churches it is customary for pastoral staff to leave a church when a new head of staff is called. My departure was first delayed when Wendell Phillips left us, and it was again delayed when Rev. George Tatro became your new minister and I agreed to be your organist until a permanent replacement was found. The Session and I have now agreed that March 27 will be an appropriate time for me to say a final goodbye. Laodice and I will, however, remain as part of the history of your church because of the two trees that were planted in our honor in December when you celebrated with me my many years as part of your church staff. Hopefully, those trees will continue to grow and flourish long after we have gone. Meanwhile, I will treasure the memory of the love you have shown me; and I thank you most sincerely for providing me with a church home where I could truly practise the leadership in Christian ministry to which I had been called. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Barry Davies |
