Abba Macarius was once asked, "How should one pray?"
The old man said, "There is no need to make long discourses; it is enough to stretch out your hand and say, 'Lord, as you will, and as you know, have mercy.' And if the conflict grows fiercer say; 'Lord help.' God knows very well what we need and shows us Mercy." Henri Nouwen in The Way of the Heart
Let this prayer be in your heart this week.
Peace of Christ Always,
George |

PARISH ASSOCIATE

Last month I shared with the Session that I had reached out to Jihyun Oh to see if she would consider serving as our Parish Associate. She has agreed and we will be finalizing the relationship at February's Session Meeting. In the mean time, I have invited her to actively participate in worship and Christian education. She was the recepient of Columbia Theological Seminary's Wilds Book Prize - Columbia's highest academic award. She currently is serving within the bounds of our Presbytery as a chaplain. The Book of Order encourages those serving within the bounds, to join with a church, as a Parish Associate. I am thankful that God has blessed us with so gifted a minister. If you would like to read more about her gifts: www.ctsnet.edu/vantage/article.asp?articleID=44

UPCOMING WORSHIP AND
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Please plans to join us each Wednesday, beginning on March 9th when we celebrate Ash Wednesday at 12:00 and at 6:30 PM. Wednesdays, during Lent, we will gather for worship, prayer, fellowship, and illumination. The focus will be on our Lenten Journey: Where is God calling us? What is God calling us to leave behind? How can we support each other in our spiritual journey? The format will change from week to week so stay in touch with developments in the E-News.
Jihyun Oh will be leading our new Christian Education series beginning on February 27th at 9:15 AM. These 6-week series will explore contemporary issues through Biblical and theological lenses. Every 6 weeks a new topic will be explored. What does the Bible say to us as we face the challenges of living in the modern world? You don't have to be a Bible expert! If you live in the modern world - which you do - you have all the expertise you need.
